You're correct Mike... As shown most recently after Scott, the incident becomes a crime scene, and the racing ends for the day.
The womans life DID NOT come to an end at the racetrack, as has been rumored

It probably depends on the individual state. The law in New Jersey requires their state police to investigate all wrecks involving fatalities.
I'm not sure about Arizona.

1000' was supposed to make it safer. now they are just putting more and more stress on the cars and going over 310 at 1000'. How is that safer. Jim was right about the turnoffs....but I think he's wrong about 1000' . And Jim can get mad at me if he wants for saying so. I don't care. That wheel just came off the car. it did not come off due to the crash, it just came off.
When is NHRA going to wake up and take power out of these cars. It's too much, there is no need of going 310 mph at 1000' to put on a show.

that was exactly what my g/f who is not a fan said. But she's not a fan she doesn't understand I guess. I don't think you stop the race. If you're a fan and don't want to watch anymore when something like that happens, leave.
but in racing, the show must go on.
After 9 pages of total soap box nonsense, someone is finally getting down to what happened..
Three possible things caused this, and although I'm not a lawyer, I'm looking at this as a lawyer would. They will be looking for someone and something to pin the blame on, other than $#it happens.
First, either the crew member did not tighten the wheel properly due to carelessness of his responsibilities.
Second, there was a stud failure due to a faulty part due to poor manufacturing quality control, or they were in an application they weren't designed to withstand.
Three, there was a stud failure due to the fact that the crewmenber didn't tighten the nuts properly.
I really wouldn't want to be the guy who mounted those tires that day. I am sure he is beyond sick, even if he did nothing wrong, I feel really bad for him. And I wouldn't want to be the owner of the company who manufactured those studs. Lots of legal dates in their future as well.
I can guarantee years of depositions over this one, with everyone and everything who were involved, from every single part manufacturer on that dragster, to anybody who remotely touched the car that day being served a soepena.. Everything, like the company who manufactured the air wrench to the air compressor company.
Lastly, I am very surprised someone from the Safty Safari didn't feel it was their "job" to attend to a spectator fighting for her life.
If true, shame on them and shame on the NHRA for instructing them to only attend the driver in a case like that. I guess it is their "business" policy, but I just don't understand how those guys couldn't have sent a person over to check on the lady.
The NHRA will have to explain that one in front of a jury of 12 unsympathetic people, especially after they hear the emotional plea from another spectator asking for their help.. I can't wait to see how they try to defend that one....

Mr Head is not GOD. He seems to think he is. If racing is so unsafe then he should park his car. He still starts that unsafe race car and straps in every chance he gets. Seem IF he wanted to protest parking and preaching from the tire would be the SAFEST PLACE TO BE. There is a Head interview after every accident since Scott K. How he tells thems its unsafe. Hindsight is 20/20 and everyone can be an expert after the fact. The safest place to RACE IS NO RACE.
It is like sky diver hitting the ground. You know it is dangerous and you can take every precaution. BAD THINGS HAPPEN !

I don't think blame is what everyone should be focused on right now. I'm sure that Antron's entire team is devastated, and I know that something will be learned from all of this. Right now, all thoughts should be with the victim(s).

My son and I were right in that area the day before, stopping at the wall to watch the action during the afternoon S/G runs while cruising through the sportsmans pits. From the videos, it looked like (to me) the tire launched after hitting the chassis when it got sideways; otherwise, it may have simply continued rolling down the track into the sand pit.
I can't even begin to imagine what Antron is feeling at the moment, big hearts can be their own harshest critics.
