About the only way you could whittle down the odds of rain is to move the event to November which is Florida's driest month by a long shot. Hell, it's Florida and rain simply goes with the territory. Gainesville's annual average - actually lower than many other Florida cities - is nearly double what it is for the rest of the country.

Years back the Gators was held in the middle of March. I don't remember so much weather problems back then.

Power out to almost whole facility. That is the hold up.

No power to suites, tower, electronics, etc.

TV has their own power.

We once ran a Lucas Oil event at Maple Grove during a power outage. Bob Lang hooked the tower up to his motorhome.

The only thing consistent about the weather is that it's inconsistent which of course includes rain patterns and wet/dry seasons. And honestly, I don't believe moving the race from March 7-9 to, say, March 21-23 would make a lick of difference. It's one of the perils of scheduling weather-dependent outdoor events - you just gotta schedule them and hope for the best.

Well, that was a really lousy 1st Rd of both Top Fuel and Funny Car, one of the worst in recent memory. But on the bright side, I'm glad they finally got it in. Maybe we'll get a few more rounds in today after all.

For those in the know, why were there THREE no shows in the 1st Rd of TA/FC? Especially when there was all day Sat to repair any engine damage.

Also, looks like DeJoria's lights have finally gotten better. She's had decent lights all day today.

Some damage cannot be repaired over night if you don't have the parts example hole in the block. blacked crank. etc. Or maybe they they sold the blown alky cars after watching the injected cars run and or the new owner didn't have a license yet, or didn't want to run it.

They chose to scrape the track mid first round, Instead of doing it before, in the am.

From what I could see on the replay, it looks like Tatum may have hit the loud pedal while aiming at the left wall.

Certainly can’t control the weather and they did the best they could trying to navigate it. But they should have delayed the start of the race. The track surface wasn’t even close to being acceptable to run these cars.
