4 wide nationals thread

I thought it was only me...

Rd 1, The 4 Winner and 4 First Losers Advance
Rd 2, Two winners and 2 first losers advance
Rd 3, 1 winner, 1 runner up, 2 semis...
So it's possible to loose twice and win the event and take the most points home.

I have no problem with the race or the format, I only have problem with Championship points being awarded.... I'd love to see 1,2,3,&4 all win the first round with 5, 6, 7, 8 finishing second... and rd two, 5, 6, 7, and 8 win/RU and go to the finals.

i really hope thats not the way they do it. i dont think even the racers will understand that system . only the NHRA can come up with a circus like this. and like someone already said, they cant make 2 lanes even, now 4? and god forbid someone in the extreme left or right lane crosses and takes out 4 cars. this 4 lane stuff is a nightmare waiting to happen.

Okay, try this, the first two cars to cross the finish line advance to the next round. Same thing, different wording.

Also, they are two separate race tracks with a wall between them.

1st and 2nd round If all four cars are Green at tree the first 2 across advance to next round. If 3 green and 1 red first 2 across advance. If 2 green and 2 red the 2 green advance. If 3 red (yes there can be 3 red) the 1 green and the 1 red closest to .000 RT advance. Of course crossing center lines or hitting wall can change out come just as in two lane race. Win lights for lane will display a blinking light for the first place car and a solid light display for the 2nd place car in the group.
Live timing will be working. I'm not sure what the display will be for sure, but it will be on.

This is just another circus so I won't watch. Cancelled my reservations for Las Vegas when I heard they were building two more lanes.

I agree.
Even with a concrete barrier in the center of the 4 lanes, will the safety safari be able and equipped to respond to a funny car on fire in lane 1 and another in lane 3?

Any word if the spring Vegas event will be 4 wide this year? I remember reading that construction began for the other 2 lanes on Monday after the pre-season test session.

It seems there are other events scheduled for the dragstrip betwen then and V1.

9 - Test 'n' Tune - Open to all cars and classes (3-8 p.m.).
9 - Dodge Midnight Mayhem (9 p.m.-1 a.m.).
10 - Completion of Wicked HP Series event from March 7 (9 a.m.-2 p.m.).
10 - Supreme Sportsman Series and MDRA qualifying and non-points Bonus Bracket Race. (2-10 p.m.).
11 - Wicked HP E.T. Series, Supreme Sportsman, MDRA - bracket racing, eliminations for Supreme and MDRA (9 a.m.-5 p.m.).

16-18 - NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals - Full Throttle Drag Racing Series national event (NHRA.com).

C'mon!! double the lanes...DOUBLE THE POINTS!! Why not, the integrity of the points chase was thrown out with the countdown anyway, so why does it matter??

So double the Safety Safari, how about the announcers?? Alan Reinhart, and Gary Gerould are gonna have their hands full!!! 4 guys running up, asking, "Did I win..What was my ET...Did I get first lane choice, 2nd lane choice or 3rd lane choice???

I participated in many 4 lane drag races, at Miami-Hollywood Speedway near Ft Lauderdale in the late 1970's, even saw 4 jet cars run together But if it didn't work or catch on then (and the track closed down) why in the hell would it work now ??

So . . . Q1's crew chief decides he wants Q8's lane (1,8,9 & 16 run first round)
Does Q8 now have the choice of forcing Q9 or Q16 to change lanes ?
