140 degree track in Norwalk...

I was there yesterday (Sunday) for the eliminations. It was hot, but not as bad as Saturday. Still though, pedal fests in pro stock???

Imagine being the clutch guy in that heat.......... I done 3 turnarounds in 40c heat back in 2000 and I tell you it aint much fun. Lost a ****load of weight that weekend!!

The 12 only Fri. rule serves NO purpose. Yer tossing out perfectly good runs for what. to keep cost down???

well, in fact it does serve a purpose...it gives a team that doesn't have a great tune for Friday night's cool conditions (that aren't relevant to race day the VAST majority of the time anyway) a chance to make the show and race on Sunday...

before the "top 12" rule it wasn't all that uncommon for the whole field, especially in Pro Stock, to be set on the Friday night session making both session on Saturday largely irrelevant...I don't know that the "top 12" rule is the best way to make both qualifying days relevant; but it does make sure that there is a point to Saturday qualifying

I'm afraid yer mistaken. #1 Qual. is NOT set on fri. Either is 2 thru 12 for that matter. If anyone goes quicker in either session on sat, they are # 1 or where ever they place.

The 12 only Fri. rule serves NO purpose. Yer tossing out perfectly good runs for what. to keep cost down???

I am mistaken? Wake the hell up! In Norwalk the majority of the field was set on Friday night and in the summer races this holds true the majority of the time and that is exactly the point I was making. So Friday does mean something. On Saturday when the weather isn't favorable to overtake the times set on Friday the top 12 rule allows for teams to have a fair chance at making the show on Saturday who were below the line on Friday. This rule makes Saturday qualifying mean something to those teams who didn't make a good run on Friday nights. I hate to be blunt like this, but I am not sure why you are having a hard time seeing this.

The day of the week, or the time of day shouldn't matter. Each team has the same 4 chances to qual. Your best run should count, regardless of when you do it.

Under the "12 only fri." rule, it's no longer the 16 quickest on the property that race Sun.

If yer gonna toss out 25% of the 16 quickest runs Fri, then why bother running Fri. nite at all??

This rule, to me hurts our sport, and is even worse than the C/D.....yeah I said it.

Over the last 10 years, Chassis, engine parts, clutch parts, tires, track construction and track prep have all become very consentient or better and available to everyone. So much so that now one of the major factors in determining an E.T. slip is track temp.

So now most of us have the ability to go out and bomb the 80 - 90 degree race track on Friday evening, but if the next day has 120+ degree track temps and there is a top 16 qualifying format, those remaining cars that weren't able to bomb the racetrack on the 1 qualifying run from the night before, may as well go home.

If there is only going to be one night time qualifying session, then the top 12 rule is very necessary.

The ideal situation is to have two night time qualifiers or do away with night time qualifing all together.

Wow Paul! I can't believe this keeps up. Let's say I challenge you to a 100 yard dash, but I get to run it in Houston in February and you have to run in Denver in August ... just because I run a faster time than you, does that really mean I'm faster than you when we run opposite each other at the same time?

The 12 car rule helps to get the 16 fastest cars.

You lost me on that one.... Where does it say you are running under different conditions???
All cars are on the same track, at the same time. Under the same conditions. What could be more fair???
They all get 4 shots period.

If you run the 13th quickest ET, ANY time Fri. it means NOTHING.
Now Sat comes. First pass you smoke. Second pass you break a belt.
The 19th qualifyer (from Fri.) makes a fair pass, it counts. he didn't go as quick as you did Fri. Yet he is in, you are not. You call that fair??

So NO, the 12 rule does NOT get the 16 quickest.
