Mooresville, N.C., April 26, 2011 – By all accounts, Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson is among the best in the NHRA’s most competitive category. His 66 national event wins and four championships trail only Hall of Famers Bob Glidden and Warren Johnson in the all-time rankings for the “factory hot rods”, with his 11-year streak of winning at least one race (extended two weeks ago with his win in Charlotte) the longest active run among all professional categories. Even so, as the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series heads to Baytown, Texas for this weekend’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals, the defending Pro Stock champion is quick to deflect any personal praise or predictions of success, preferring instead to credit his...
Seven weeks after beginning the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season, LE Tonglet will be back on the Nitro Fish Suzuki GSXR Pro Stock Motorcycle for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals, April 29-May 1, at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. The extended delay was an unusual scheduling quirk for the two-wheel racers and Tonglet, the reigning series champion, will be very happy when qualifying starts on Friday. “That was way too long to be sitting around doing nothing,” he commented. “At least it will start picking up now. I haven’t ridden since we got back from Gainesville. We’ve been working on (his brother) GT’s bike. We’re still working on it. “Our plans are to test either Tuesday or Wednesday. We have...
Team Mopar Driver Johnson Targets Third Final-Round Appearance, First Victory at Houston Johnson to step up to the plate for NHRA Night at the Ball Park Auburn Hills, Mich. — Mopar® Dodge Avenger NHRA Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson is hoping to repeat his past success at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston, Texas this weekend. The Team Mopar veteran has posted two career final-round appearances at the venue and will look to add another, along with a victory, at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals, April 29–May 1. Johnson advanced to the final round at Royal Purple Raceway in 2007 and again in 2010. According to the Greeneville, Tenn. native, the air conditions at the Texas venue...
LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. – Racers race and when they don’t, they tend to get, well, cranky. “It’s been a long time since Pomona,” said PEAK Motor Oil/Herculiner Top Fuel pilot TJ Zizzo. “Do I remember how to drive a 300-mph fire-breathing beast?” The question is rhetorical, but Zizzo Racing is champing at the bit to get back on the track. This weekend’s NHRA Full Throttle Series event at Royal Purple Raceway is just what the doctor ordered. In years past, Houston and the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals represented the team’s first race of the season. Zizzo Racing kicked off its 2011 campaign at Pomona this year, so it’s a hungry team with a race under its belt arriving at Baytown this week. “The team is fired up,”...
San Diego, Ca – Dan Myers has been busy this offseason. After being in the chase last year for the 2010 West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association points’ battle and finishing in the top 5 in the number 4 spot, he looks to improve on that in the 2011 season with some new additions over the winter. First, and the most drastic, is the addition of the screw blower poking out the hood and almost over the roof of his 1957 Chevy Cameo truck. Dan was the highest placed driver in the 2010 WCOPMA points standings that did not use a screw blower but he cracked and ditched his roots blower for 2011 and picked up this D-Rotor screw blower. Helping him put all this new power to the ground will be a new lock up style clutch. With continued tuning...
Steve Torrence is putting out the ‘gone fishing’ sign on Tuesday, but it won’t affect his weekend plans of driving the Capco Racing/Tuttle Motorsports Top Fuel dragster in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals, April 29-May 1, at Baytown, Texas, near Houston. “I wouldn’t do anything that would keep me away from the race track,” said Torrence, of Kilgore, Texas. “This is one of two home-state races we have (the other is Sept. 22-25 at Ennis, Texas, near Dallas) and we expect quite a few family and friends to be at the track this weekend. “It’s always fun when we have a race in Texas. I am looking forward to visiting with all of them . . . and I look forward to racing against one driver instead of three like we did in the...
he journey started last summer and Mike Castellana was proud to declare it over – and in victorious fashion – by the end of 2010. What has followed in the three-plus months since has simply been the icing on the cake. The icing was extra sweet last weekend as Castellana claimed another American Drag Racing League (ADRL) in Pro Nitrous, going 3.828 to knock off 2010 PN World Champion Burton Auxier at the Safety-Kleen Spring Drags II. It’s the latest special moment in what has been a remarkable journey and it is also an incredible testament to Castellana’s triumph over cancer. Never one to get too emotional, even the easygoing Castellana found a little added meaning in the heart-warming victory at Palm Beach International...
Through the first 4 races of the 2011 Full Throttle season the RACERS EDGE team of Rodger Brogdon and Steve Kent has had quite the roller coaster ride. From the high of their first #1 qualifying effort at Gainesville to the starting line confusion at last week’s 4-Wide that ended the weekend with a first round red light, the team has had its share of ups and downs. Now the team and the tour heads to their home track, Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown Texas for the O’Reilly Spring Nationals and anticipation is high for a very good weekend, especially with the addition of a second car. Team owner Steve Kent recently completed his Pro Stock licensing requirements and will debut the teams new red PISTONATOR car at this week’s race...
