Team Mopar Driver Johnson Targets Third Final-Round Appearance,
First Victory at Houston

Johnson to step up to the plate for NHRA Night at the Ball Park

Auburn Hills, Mich. — Mopar® Dodge Avenger NHRA Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson is hoping to repeat his past success at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston, Texas this weekend. The Team Mopar veteran has posted two career final-round appearances at the venue and will look to add another, along with a victory, at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals, April 29–May 1.

Johnson advanced to the final round at Royal Purple Raceway in 2007 and again in 2010. According to the Greeneville, Tenn. native, the air conditions at the Texas venue are conducive to Pro Stock cars of the Mopar HEMI®-powered persuasion.

“It’s always fast. There’s good air there, and we love that,” said Johnson, now in his 16th year piloting a Mopar-powered Pro Stock vehicle. “There have been some improvements made to the track, so we’re looking forward to seeing what those are. It’s always been one of my favorite places to go.”

After a slow start, Johnson has been moving up in the NHRA Pro Stock point standings. He cracked the top 10 following the previous event, the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, N.C., and is now ninth in the rankings. The J&J Racing team owner and driver is looking to jump a few more spots with a Houston win.

“We’re building up slowly,” said Johnson. “Hopefully, we can do what we did last year and reach our first final-round of the season at Houston. We stayed after at Charlotte and tested our Mopar Dodge Avenger. We keep adding more consistency to our program. That’s our goal, to be very consistent, and I think we are doing that. We just have to take our momentum and hopefully go the finals at Houston and move up a few spots.”

Johnson to step up to the plate for NHRA Night at the Ball Park

Team Mopar’s Allen Johnson will join a number of his fellow NHRA stars to take part in the NHRA Night at the Ball Park, scheduled for Thursday, April 28 at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. Johnson will participate in an autograph session on the main concourse at Minute Maid Park, along with Mopar-powered Funny Car driver Matt Hagan and a host of additional NHRA stars. Hagan will also throw out the first pitch for the game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.

“We actually have a minor league team for the Astros in our hometown, the Greeneville (Tenn.) Astros,” said Johnson. “It’ll be fun to watch the major league team in Houston and also attend the NHRA fan signing. We can bring a bit of the drag racing world to all those baseball fans.”
