After suffering a mechanical failure during their opening attempt at Royal Purple Raceway, the defending Pro Stock champions were forced to change engines in the short time between sessions. Despite completing the task with no time to spare and being the first car to make a run in the left hand lane, Anderson powered through the quarter-mile in 6.585 seconds with a top speed of 209.95 mph to move from outside the field to the sixth position midway...
CHARLOTTE, NC (April 29, 2011) – Angie Smith and her Coffman Tank Trucks Buell racing team didn’t have the day they were hoping for today in Houston, Texas. The drag racing beauty has already had her hands full this weekend and it is only the first day. The first pass of the day, the bike wouldn’t start and the second pass was good, but just not enough to be in the top-12 going into Saturday. “I couldn’t get it into gear during the first pass, so we never made it down” said Angie Smith. “The second pass was pretty good, but it just wouldn’t run. We have some work to do over night in order to step it up for tomorrow.” Smith ran a 7.005 et at 190.00 mph, but the cutoff for Friday’s qualifying order was a 6.970 et. She will...
CHARLOTTE, NC (April 29, 2011) – The Stanfield-Yonke Racing, Coffman Tank Trucks, Nitrofish Pontiac GXP of Greg Stanfield went into the 24th annual O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas wanting to take over the points lead. Qualifying in the ninth spot heading into Saturday’s two qualifying sessions, Stanfield is looking for a bit more before race day on Sunday. Running a 6.597 et at 209.82 mph was good enough to secure him a spot so far. “We struggled today,” said Greg Stanfield. “We need a bit more in order to improve our position going into Sunday. We know what we are missing, so we should be fine tomorrow.” Stanfield is sitting only one round out of the NHRA Championship points lead, so running well each pass is...

The results couldn’t have been any better because Tonglet sits in the provisional No. 1 position following a very impressive quarter-mile lap of 6.849 seconds at a career-best 195.95 mph. His first run of 6.912 seconds was fourth-quickest of that session. “We were trying to dial in the clutch,” Tonglet said, “and it looks like it’s coming around. We are excited about it. “The track conditions were not as good as you might...

BAYTOWN, Texas – The phrase “History tends to repeat itself” is one not only limited to the textbooks and notepads found in schools. In fact, the phrase can be seen in the pits and on the track of many NHRA Drag Races around the country. Whether it’s the wave of successful wins a driver can have in one season, a string of No. 1 qualifiers that occur in back-to-back races, or even a repeat world championship, history can have a tendency to repeat itself on the dragstrip. As the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing series returns to Royal Purple Raceway, April 29-May 1, for the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals, it’s that exact phrase that driver Danny Rowe hopes to be uttering in Winner’s Circle on Sunday. Just...
