I remember the first time 21 years ago after starting my first over the road job and being out 2-3 weeks, then coming back home and watching TV again. I can't explain how or why it (and especially the commercials) suddently looked so stupid.
Sometimes I watch a commercial and think "What was the ad company thinking? Are they THAT simple or just running out of material. Is the majority of their audience that simple and they know it?"
Same as a C.B. radio in the truck. At one time I wouldn't have thought I could live without one. Then I had to switch trucks in a hurry, didn't have time to put it in, and went out for two weeks. First week I thought I was going to die. That was in 1994 and haven't had one since. Couldn't pay me to put one in. I hadn't realized how listening to so much negativity effected my attitude and outlook until I got away from it.
At least the Pizza Hut commecial I was constantly bombarded with the other night made a little sense. Conservative dad says "You CAN'T just go straight to all that cheese." I think the kid says a defiant "Oh yeah?" before turning it around, biting the crust. Then they show the dad shaking his head. The marketing angle is just so obvious that it hits a nerve with me. Like you said, you hate it but, you watch it.
Why WOULD I want a bunch of concentrated cheese out in the edge of the crust all by itself instead of mingled in with the tomato sauce and everything else? I'd just get a bigger pizza!
I LIKE crust! After I eat my pizza, I pick her pieces of crust up and eat it, too.
Remember the kids who'd peel the edges off their bread before eating a sandwich? I was one of those kids who'd stare at them like 'What the h*ll?"
