World Series of ProMod (1 Viewer)

Nice pics. Thanks Chris. The paint job on Glaser's car is bad ass. Saw it at the NMCA race in Joliet. Any word if this race will be streamed live like last year?
The Glaser family is really nice. Talked to them in the staging lanes prior to a test pass. First time on the mountain and they normally don’t run 1/4 mile. Picked up an event shirt while there.

Thanks for the update and pictures Chris. Glaser's car looks amazing and I can't wait to see it up close. With the burnout contest paying 5 grand and a special session specifically for it, I expect some guys to really throw down. 27 cars, while not 32, is still going to be great!

Chris, as for your statement about some of the teams not wanting to make the trip, "the cost of travel and potential winnings don't make sense," I have to disagree. I just looked at the payout for Pro Mod at the US Nationals. Winner gets $10k, R/U gets $3k. And that's the same payout for all of the Pro Mod national events. No money to semi finalists, only the winner and runner up. Now of course, that doesn't count contingency money the winner and runner up could also collect so I'm not forgetting about that, but at Indy you have to qualify against 25+ other cars, make the field of 16, then win the event to get $10k. At the World Series, there is no qualifying as everyone makes the field, you race one additional round of eliminations, and the purse is 10x the amount of a regular national event!

Another way to look at it:
Indy = 25-30 cars show up, 2 cars collect $13k plus contingency
WSOPM = 25-32 cars show up, 1 car collects $100k

I guess in my mind, if I was running a top tier/middle tier Pro Mod team, I would figure out how to get the costs of the WSOPM into my yearly budget as the reward is well worth it.

Plus an Indy Wally .... that money gets forgotten very quickly.

Of course, winning Indy you can't put a price on that. But from a pure financial perspective, you have to win 10 national events (there's only 12 races in the entire NHRA Pro Mod series) to equal the prize money of winning this one event (again, not counting contingency money).

I did not realize that the cars that qualify in NHRA Pro Mod didn’t get paid something. Figured E3 was paying out something other than the finalists. Yeah in that case the WSOPM is same risk/higher reward than any national event.

They are going to do quite a bunch of live streaming on the drag illustrated Facebook page.

Thanks for the heads up. Watched the 3 episodes of "Embedded" last night on their facebook page. A nice preface to the race.

Here is the bracket for Saturday.

Thanks Chris. Just watched the shakedown runs and 1st round pairing selections. Some brutal first round matchups. Chad Green vs. Rick Hord, Enders vs. Satterfield, Danny Rowe vs. Shane Molinari and Jim Whiteley vs. Todd Tutterow. If this race happens next year, I will find a way to be there. Love my Pro Mod. Thanks to the Drag Illustrated Facebook page for posting the video. Whoever gets out of the four cars on the right side of the ladder get a free pass to the quarterfinals.

Just for fun, these are my race predictions. Biehle over Barker, Green over Hord, Matusek over DiStefano, Stevens over Caruso, Satterfield over Enders, Bowman over Menholt, Ray over Oskas, Hruska over Johanns, Glaser over Pesz, S.Whitley over Jones, Molinari over Rowe, Tutterow over Whitley and Jackson over Costa.

2nd rnd: Biehle over bye, Green over Matusek, Satterfield over Stevens, Ray over Bowman, Glaser over Hruska, Molinari over Whitley and Tutterow over Jackson.
3rd round: Green over Biehle, Ray over Satterfield, Glaser over bye and Molinari over Tutterow.
Semis: Ray over Green, Molinari over Glaser
Finals: Ray over Molinari

Without times being posted yesterday this is just with the eye test. Molinari or Bowman are probably the best two Turbo cars. They both looked real smooth as did Biehle. Hruska seemed to struggle which really opens the door for either Glaser or Pesz to get the semis. Ray really looked strong yesterday. The two potential epic matchups in round 2 is Bowman-Ray and Molinari- Steven Whitley. I would predict the winners of those two matchups will meet in the finals.

If you love promods this is a must event. All the racers are very welcoming and will invite you in to get a better look at the cars and it’s a great chance to talk to the drivers and teams. Talking to a turbo racer yesterday, his car complete is sitting at 300k. Electronics alone in the car is 50k.

On a side note, after the promods ran last night they had one of the Sackman brothers make a pass in a Top Sportsman car. Could have passed for a promod except it had a pro charger on it which of course is not yet legal. He ran 3.89 to the 1/8th and 5.99 in the quarter. I hear rumors of NHRA making them legal at some point.

Stevens 5.93 def Caroso
Peaz 605 def Glaser 6.22
Bowman 5.98 def Menholt
Menholt went red then fought tire shake got up in two wheels and slammed into the left wall, went across and slammed hard into the right wall. Out of the car and ok but the car suffered significant damage. Down for cleanup.

J. Whitley 608 def Tutterow 612
Biehle 5.92 def Barker 5.99
Hruska 6.54 def Johanns 6.98
Wild race. Johanns with the huge holeshot but bangs it in the lights and Hruska goes by for the win.
Hord 5.92 def Green 6.37
Ray 5.98 def Oskas 9.00

Rowe 6.06 Molinari 6.40
Enders 6.07 def satterfield 6.11
Jackson 6.29 def Costa no show
SWhitley 6.00 def Jones 6.99
Matusek 8.11 def DiStefano left before tree activated

there is a better feed of the race on the doorslammers plus facebook page. round 2 is about to start.
