Carlsbad is gone now.

Not sure if the sport compact dudes still have Pomona once a year.

If they're going to take up our time if a gazillion interviews...they can at least go live.

Or are we live and they haven't told us?

Not so true, Pomona was in the middle of nowhere for a long time.

Why do people move next to a racetrack and then whine about noise?

If they hate it so much, they should give me their house... I LOVE the sound of racecars in the morning and at night.

my friend jeff's parents live in those houses and love drag racing. However, As they often remind me, there is only racing TWICE A YEAR. Still racing past 7 tonight could be dangerous. With the moisture in the track will get damp, and that could get ugly...especially for pro stock and the tafc guys.

another question: why hasnt this been postponed til next weekend? All we're getting is hardly any sportsman/super class runs, hardly any pro runs, a bunch of chunked tires, and wasted TV time.

Along with the fact that there are quite a few homes very close to the track, is the fact that there are very few hotels/motels or restaurants in LaVern, which means they get very little economic value from the race weekends.

Many years ago, the OCIR crew put on a points meet at Pomona. I answered the phone in the tower to a lady who wanted us to stop racing for 1/2 hour, because they were having a wedding at a nearby church. Right...we'll get right on that!

I had to take my wife to the ER last year, during the race. I couldn't believe how loud it was that far from the track. Ive never missed a round before and to hear it from that distance was pretty cool but I could see why people would complain.
I'm all for the you bought next to a race track live with it crowd. But I don't think they have ever raced there every week so the people get used to not having the sound and don't want it. Just my .02

It's a double-edge sword here. These residents almost all moved in after the racetrack was built yet they live there 365 days a year and the races are there three weekends a year. The city council considers such percentages when making decisions and, what's far more important to those elected officials who make such decisions is that the residents vote and the NHRA, nor their fans do. It's a sad state of affairs but nearly all governing bodies seem corrupt that way. Self preservationism at it's best.

Bruton Smith's smartest move was building Las Vegas Motor Speedway right next to an Air Force Base. It's one very smart way to make the entire previous paragraph a moot point.

Before the drag racing school was closed the race track was alive more than three weekends a year...

We heard something about a road course event there next weekend.

Bobby...
Sorry as I did not mean to post on top of yours.
I knew what you were saying and people should know what surrounds them when purchasing a home..

This thread is from 2007.

Interesting how it is still relevant.

Another reason is that there are many churches in the area.

We're cool Terry. People have been moving next to industrial areas, airports, Air Force Bases, sporting facilities and the like for centuries and immediately thereafter they start whining about the noise, traffic and inconveniences. It wasn't until recently that our political morons were self serving enough to listen to them however. I sit in City Council meetings often in my line of work and one resident with a bug in his shorts can stop development in it's tracks despite conforming to the general plans, City staff's recommendations and common sense being applied. I, for one, believe that's wrong - but, I'd make a very poor politician.

I have always believed you should be able to do what ever you want with the land you own. If the people around you don't like it they should have three choices, buy you out, live with it, or move.

You're not alone John, but that's why zoning laws and city ordinances were established. If your scenario were true everywhere, a farmer could buy up land next to a beautiful custom home development and put in a hog farm-stinking up the entire place and ruining property values across the board. For that reason, I'm glad there are some measures in place. The real problem comes when the hog farmer of three decades gets shut down because some developer builds the custom home subdivision next to him and the incoming residents complain about the smell/property values. That's pretty much what Pomona is dealing with. Most of the most vocal opponents have lived there less than ten years.
