That seems to be a senseless time to curtail racing. JMHO. They allow fireworks later than that, in most places, no? There will probably be clear skies, Mine Shaft Conditions, a perfect track, and everyone will have to go home.

Becasue people move next to a race track, and, believe it or not, they actually race cars on the track, and then the people bitch about the noise.

Pomona is a little different though, airport across the street, plenty big fairgrounds, seems to be plenty of industrial stuff around the track, but someone must complain, or complained in the past.

Actually, there are lots of homes just east of the track that have been there for quite a while. There are some nice old neighborhoods nearby the track that were there before the track was and the loud cars got really loud.

I know there are homes around, but it's not like some race tracks where there is nothing else but the houses around it.

Still unless those folks have to plow the north 40 tomorrow 1900 seems a bit excessive.

Race officials are negotiating an extension from 6 p.m. (the Sunday curfew) to 8 or 9 p.m. so we can finish today. If the rain stays away, we should be okay, but it will be dark for the final rounds.

Nitro under the lights in SoCal, sounds good to me wish I was there, except its not raining here.

Cool, when I was station in Subic, it was Twelve hours earlier than the east coast... used ta piss my folks off when I called home at 1300:D

Its the only sane time to call. I still haven't made it down to the PI, its looking good for couple of business trips to Thailand though:D .

Not so with Pomona. Those houses almost across the street in LaVern were there long before someone decided to hold drag races in the fairgrounds parking lot.

There's another issue to deal with - lighting. It's true that portables are brought in however they are marginal at best, especially when fog rolls in.

The portable lights are Musco Lighting portables and they do a pretty good job of lighting the place up. Used to be pretty dim out there, but they have used the Musco lights the past few years and it's not a big problem any more.

Musco flat out rules (Oskaloosa, Iowa company)..anything you need lit up..they'll do it..Superbowl..Daytona..you name it..oh..Knoxville Nationals..hehe.

The people that live around the track hate racing.
We lost the super chevy show this year also. It's now going to be at Fontana.
Div. 7 races also vanished a couple of years ago.
Now that goodguys is not doing vintage drag racing, we lost the nitro nats @ Pomona in June. Not sure if there will be any vintage drags this year there.:(

My wife and I were vacationing in So Cal a few years ago and took in a car show on a Wedensday night at JFR and personaly got some great time with John as the show wrapped up. Hit the NHRA museum in Pomona a few days later and was nieve enough to ask for the race schedule at the track, (Thinking maybe we could catch some bracket action) and was shocked to find out that they only race 3 times a year at the track:( What a waste!

Went down to Carslbad and was shocked to find out what a dump that place was, but they were at least they were racing!
