I had the same set when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I bought a used one on e-Bay about 20 years ago, but the only rubber bands I could find were way too strong for the launcher, and all it would do is flip the dragsters over within the first 2 inches of track. Years later I found a series of photos that comprised the instructions which listed the correct sized rubber band, but by then I put it in a storage closet, and subsequently buried it behind a bunch of miscellaneous boxes. One of these years, I should bring it back out and see if the correct rubber bands do the trick. My favorite was a slightly different version of the Snake / Mongoose Hotwheel set that included dragsters instead of the funny cars. Instead of an inclining start it used a floor positioned rubberband powered dual launcher along with a really cool all mechanical full Christmas tree that had the capability to indicate a red light start.

I've also got those 3 Johnson cars in a display along with a 1/4 scale helmet and the signed Youngblood lithograph of Blaine on the wall behind them. The crown jewel of my collection. Not really “toys”, but of all the die cast cars I’ve collected, these are my favorites.
