Great piece Bobby, brings back a lot of memories. Merry Christmas!

I guess most of us would have to agree that Hot Wheels were the best, and fueled the nitro fire for many of us as when we were very young boys. What an outstanding marketing tool they ended up being, thanks to the Mongoose and his Mom's connections with Mattel toys.

I would also agree that those Cox funny cars were great. I had 2 of them and spent many fun hours running them down that string. I'm pretty sure I still have mine buried some where in the garage or the attic.

Not really “toys”, but of all the die cast cars I’ve collected, these are my favorites.

My favorite was a slightly different version of the Snake / Mongoose Hotwheel set that included dragsters instead of the funny cars. Instead of an inclining start it used a floor positioned rubberband powered dual launcher along with a really cool all mechanical full Christmas tree that had the capability to indicate a red light start.

I had the same set when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I bought a used one on e-Bay about 20 years ago, but the only rubber bands I could find were way too strong for the launcher, and all it would do is flip the dragsters over within the first 2 inches of track. Years later I found a series of photos that comprised the instructions which listed the correct sized rubber band, but by then I put it in a storage closet, and subsequently buried it behind a bunch of miscellaneous boxes. One of these years, I should bring it back out and see if the correct rubber bands do the trick.

now that pic brings back memories and yes if memory serves, i had hard time producing a side by side clean run. It didn't come with spare rubber bands but i believe it had a tension knob for a substitute rubber band just in case the original popped

A friend of mine still has a "new in box" COX Bill Schifsky nitro funny car toy..... that was given to him by Bill Schifsky himself back when they were new.

Below is an example picture taken from the internet, not the actual one that my friend owns.
