Too many races?!?! Then don't go!

Shorten the schedule, hurt the local economies, take away the economy and race track owners can't afford to treat you to those nice little match races.

Take away the economy and take away the local business who support the racers. Take away the support, take away the racers.

There's no easy solution. NHRA has become more of an influence than Wally Parks himself ever dreamed it would be. I read Gainsville boosted the economy 3 million dollars, something like 2.5 million for Ennis and the surrounding areas.

I realize that you guys like the pros. I realize that a lot you guys 'don't care' for the sportsman racers, who depend on the tracks that host one national event a year to put them in the black for the rest of the year.

Ya'll want to eliminate an entire event for 8 rounds of nitro racing and 320 feet less?

I am not talking about going to races...I'm talking about deluting the sport with too many races. Right now we have 24 races, with less races there is a possibility of more teams, more sponsors, and better attendance. Why oversaturate the market?

and as far as pro vs sportsman..this is the pro board...sportsman's have theirs.

Keep it at 1320. If this stays at 1000 ft then ill prolly only attend 1 event next year, but im sure NHRA tickets will be $$ the same or go up for less entertainment. Maybe some teams only want 1000 ft for the $$$$. update the Tracks NHRA,Spends some $$$,quit making rule changes. Running them to 1000 ft wouldnt have made no diffrence for Scott. Its very hard when we lose some1,but when your going 300 mph, well your taking chances with that and need to accept it,and im sure most have.I sure wouldnt want to slow down if i was racing pro's. The family would just have to accept the dangers your putting yourself in. Keep it at 1320.

Lets look at it this way, say I have a professional team rather than a sportsman team. Right now, I can safely afford to make 12-14 trips out of town to races within my 900 mile radius. If I have to expand my radius to 1500 miles, that will cut down the trips I make to 8-10.

The local businesses who help us financially can attend races only within the 900 mile radius, if the race they attend is cut out, are they going to cut out my sponsorship since they can't make it and the market I'll be racing in isn't the market where they do business?

The fans who would go to watch, they work Monday through Friday. If they have a race within a driving distance that they'll get there overnight to watch the races on Saturday and Sunday, then they can drive all night and be back to work on Monday.

Or, raise the radius to where they can't make it overnight, so it's harder for them to make it for the weekend, they might just make it a day. If they have to fly, they would have to spend more money, which they don't have. So, they may miss the race completely. How's fewer races farther away going to help attendence?

The problem with updating the tracks is,some can't be made longer. Pomona,E-Town come to mind. I not familiar enough with the rest but I think both of them have public roads very near the end of the track. They're not going to run 1000' @ some tracks and 1320' @ the others. I've only seen one race @ a 1000',Z-Max and the 1000' wasn't all that bad to me but to change it to a 1000' for anything less than the fuel cars will hurt the sport. Look,we have had a rash of fatalities in drag racing this year and it hurts, but we could go several years and not have another. So make the tracks as safe as possible and race.

Well if pomona and e-town cant be updated move on to somewhere else. Bruton smith just built a beutiful new racetrack, race there a couple times instead of once.

You are funny, because you don't like 1,000 foot racing NHRA should give up on the two largest cities for media exposure... Los Angeles Metro and the New Jersey-New York area. Do you have any idea how much a National Sport like NHRA needs to be in these markets?

Just how many rabid 1320 foot fans will NOT buy a ticket? Fewer than you think, the economy will have a much larger effect on ticket sales than a boycott because of 1,000 foot drag racing.

Nitro racing sells.

Media exposure and NHRA....let me know when that happens huh. The majority of media exposure is from JFR, DSR, and those others who have figured out that if they want anything done right they do it themselves. This is an explosive topic with many opionions...when is the the next race anyway?

Heard that!! Lets go racing, just 1320 lol.

Just thinking out loud here a second here. ;)

The 85% rule caused carnage. Who made up that rule???

The rev limiter had caused massive carnage. Who made that rule???

Everybody race for a 1000-ft, because of the carnage from above rules. Now who is planning on making this a rule???? Humm,,,,

The NHRA needs major metropolitan cities like LA & NJ-NY for sponsorship and media exposure, the same way NASCAR needs those areas. Neither Fontana NASCAR race sells out, but NASCAR needs to be in the Major Media centers so sponsors see added value. Why do you think the NHRA TV show stays on ESPN? Sponsors.

Like MLB & NFL, they need the BIG cities, but please leave the NFL out of LA, who needs them.

And how much coverage has NHRA gotten in LA since or the passing of Shav Glick? (RIP) and will we ever get that much coverage again?

You can say that because you have plenty of tracks near you that are adequate to run 1/4 mile for. If you can't race here, there's another track relatively close by.

In New Mexico, we don't have a divisional, much less a national. Closest track for a National or Divisional, is about 400 miles away. Take that track away and the next closest is 600 miles away.

Until recently, we had to go 400 miles just to test on a good sticky racetrack. Thankfully, our new racetrack is run by racers who I think are doing an excellent job of upgrading the racetrack, now we are just 30 minutes away.

Jenn, I think John was referring to the Midwest and East! Indy, Norwalk and Chi-town are less then 3 months apart, yet are within 300 mi. of each other! Out West your right the races are few and far between.

Quite a bit of coverage from Jim Peltz, he does a fine job and Martin Henderson too, they may not be Shav Glick, but they both are doing a very good job covering motorsports and may together may be getting more coverage than Shav did.

Do you even read the LA Times?

He doesn't think it matters were he lives

What does it matter where I live? I liken it to people wanting to have beach and play volleyball in shorts at the north pole. We allready have too many races, shorten the season and race at the safe tracks. This concerns pro classes btw...

There is also a high concentration of race teams in that area too. If my budget for the year is $12,000 and running at tracks within a radius costs me (random number here) $4000 each time I can make three races. If they shut down one tracks and move the race to a track twice the mileage so now it costs me $7,000 to make that race. I'm going to be able to only make two races. Take away a zero and it's the situation with a spectator.

This is really interesting, over 40 years ago, yet still in the interest of safely stopping the cars.

It was written in relation to the death of Q-Ball Wales in Monroe, Louisiana.

Near the bottom.

Ok the Winternats coverage was fine...we'll see how the finals are done. I read it online...and I do log in when I can.
