There has to be rule changes in 2013. Of course the NHRA would think it has parity. Who has every win, every #1 qualifier? I don't think the Harley's are sandbaggin at all, I just think the rules are so freakin lopsided.
Those of us that closely follow the class have been outraged for years, But the masses were either unaware or didn't care about the disparity. After this seasons results, it could no longer be hidden. The media has picked up on the story and have been more opinionated about it. (Thanks for leading the way Bobby!) There is no way the PR dept. cannot be thinking the increase in backlash is bad for biz.
My guess is Terry + Byron have already been warned to dig the 2 valve stuff out. ( Which in the long run might be a bad thing. Force the rules to say "2 valve pushrod Vtwin', and you may be keep out aspiring companies with more modern equipment. Like Erik Buell.)
My hope is NHRA takes away displacement--and allows more different brands.
With the PSM rules apparently in the process of being resolved for 2013, (back to 2 valves, pushrods and 160 cu in for V-twins) it may not be crazy for Viper to field a bike next year since Illmor already has a starting point for the engine.
They have a ways to go though, the stock Viper 152 puts out 117 HP, they're going to have to approximately triple that.
I hope this happens, it will be fun to have another V-twin in the mix.
Great Idea Viper and i hope it works out and you have great success just not too much cause once ya do then they will add weight or something to stop ya its the new NHRA out their anymore more. 1000 feet take away Valves put canopies on some cars and not all its just what they do. Take me back to the 90s at least fun times.
