Mine also shows July 2006 when real names were required though I was here longer than that. When Compuserve had RIS (racing information systems) under their motorsports hat I moderated the Drag Race forum there. We had some good live chats. Ed Dykes created Drag Race Central along with Larry Sullivan to take race results to another level.

I still have my Nitromater tags. :)

Also July ‘06 re-register for me (thanks to Jim Jannard). I started here in late ‘03 or early ‘04 in the “anonymous” days as VegasNitro (a moniker which I still use on Instagram).

Rarely post anymore, but I check in from time to time. Like others, I have met a lot of awesome people in real life because of this board. I still hang out with them at every national event I attend, and sometimes at events that have nothing to do with drag racing.

I turn 50 in about 6 weeks. 😳

july '06 re-sign for me also.......scotty cannon's nitro mater FC debuted in 99' i think, so like paul songas said,
early 2000's for first members......i was in there somewhere, not sure what year or what my anonymous handle was.

Wow, it's rare in my late 40's that I'm among the young ones :)
Like many I was here when the reboot happened in 06. I believe it was Indy 01, when I first heard of here and joined.

Amazing the friends I have gained from here that I now hang out with in person. Heading to Indy every year now I meet up with the mater misfits, a few still lurk here from time to time.

Going to real names did clean the place up as we were starting to become the wild west. But I do miss having so many of the drivers, owners and sponsors that used to be on before, Some under their real names, many under other names and just here for fun.
Being a mod it was always funny watching some know-it-all armchair crew chief argue with someone having no idea that it was a driver or owner and actually really did have a clue

Remember the Dixon/Jannard......debate?

After being on the anti-Whit crowd, I became a fan after his treatment of our very own HipRoger

I got cursed in taking over Pick the Winners j/k- The lady who ran it before disappeared with a handful of races left in the season. The was the last time I was anywhere near the lead. Since taking it over I absolutely suck at making picks. Although I do love the new system we use and it's way faster than the old spreadsheets I used when I first started and we had over 100 people playing. Ray loved to keep me on my toes and correct my errors.

Although I'm not around all that often, My mater origins go back to the old Goracing.com boards before we migrated over here. So it'd be well over 20 something years now , since I was a teenager.

No clue exactly but seems like mid 90's when RIS/ Compuserve started, but I do remember many years later paying that $1.00 in 2006 like everyone else. I'll be 80 1st week of February 2024.

Joined Dec 2020. 62 years old now. Retired in March, no regrets! First race was in '72 at Fresno Dragways. Detoured to drag boat racing for several years then in '84 attended my first March Meet. Later that year went to the NHRA Pomona finals. Been hooked ever since.

Mine says July 9, 2006, but I think that was also the re-register date. I was here very early, and seem to remember this was originally a Scotty Cannon fan site that became Nitromater.

For results and conversations I was originally on Compuserve, which was accessed by dialup (phone with the squacks and screeching until it connected) internet. From there you went to CIS RIS which was Racing Information Services on Compuserve. They did live updates of the races on it. I know Dave Gerrard will remember names better than me, but Ed Dykes (?) was involved and a few others.

Before that, unless you had a friend at the races near a pay phone you had to wait two weeks for National Dragster to arrive in your mailbox to find out who won. I did run up a few bucks dialing the "Castrol GTX Pipeline" 900 number ($3.99 for the first minute, $1.99 for each additional minute or something like that) to get daily evening race reports on a recorded message from Dave McClelland. "Dial 1 for top fuel, 2 for funny car 3 for pro stock, 4 for sportsman..." The sportsman coverage was weak on that.

Oh. I'll be celebrating the 40th anniversary of my 28th birthday in about 3 weeks.
My path is so very similar to Randy Goodwin's. I show 7/9/2006 as well, but was on here much earlier than that. I "met" Randy on CompuServe and you were instrumental in helping me get started in TA/FC through that relationship. And that shortblock and heads I bought from you were key factors in my success in Western Fuel Altereds.

Randy, one of the key players on CIS (and then Drag Race Central) was Larry Sullivan who lived in the same city as I do (ABQ). We visited whenever possible and ended up on the same flights to/from races on occasion. As I recall, he was the architect of the software that DRC still uses today.

I'm fairly new here. I came over after the Competition Plus message board shut down. Does anyone remember the "Nitronic Research" message board? That one had to be from circa 2000. That was the first drag racing message board that I found out about. The great Tom Jobe from the "Surfers" posted there from time to time, among other racers and former racers. I also used to monitor the "Classic Funny Car" board, but that site died out like so many when most members went over to Facebook. I can't stand Mark Zuckerburg and his left-wing politics so I am not on Facebook.
Jon -

I posted on the Nitronic board a bit and lurked a lot. To this day I run a "Nitronic Research" decal on both my funny car body (rear spoiler sideplate) and altered (on the rear wing).

Hi Lyle!

Yes, Larry Sullivan. I couldn't remember his name. I had the RIS sticker on my TA/FC as well. Thanks for the kudos!

Randy

I remember posting on here as early as '01, WAY back before we used real names. Social media kind of pulled me away for many years, but started lurking again several years ago.

If it weren't for this group, there are some people I would have likely walked right by and never met. @Mike Larson & @Mark Krogen for example. I think I knew @Brian Okeefe before I knew he was on Mater. I met Joe Shorewood for the first time in Phx last year when @Paul Songas and Peter Nielsen went down for the "Last Pass"... Haha!

I go back several years before 2006 real name era began. Things were getting a bit contentious/ personal sometimes in those days. Glad we changed to real names. Brought a little more civility to the comments. I’m getting ready to turn 71 in Feb. Still love going to the races I get to a few every year. Still enjoying this place….

I think the first time I was here was late 2000 early 2001 just after the launch. Got to be friends with Jerrod, Jim Jannard, Jeannie Allsage, and countless others over the years. I lurk a few times a week just don't post too much.

July 8, 2006. I think "Scotty" was running it then. Before that I was on the old Compuserve forum with Big Louie from the institute.
