I’ve been attending the fall race in Las Vegas for 12 years now. I personally don’t like driving on or around the strip so for that reason I personally think the Uber or taxi is a good idea. I stay at a hotel in North Vegas near Nellis Air Force base. There is far less traffic and shenanigans to deal with getting to and from the track this way and it works for me.

For shits and giggles I looked up what a Lyft costs from Paris to LVMS and its $30 one way, but that is also on a Wednesday night, I can imagine its at the very least double that for the weekend. When its all said and done it might be the same amount but at least with the rental car if you decide to go somewhere else you can do it easily.
I know it is probably too late to change hotel plans but if you go again, look at Cannery. Its off strip and a lot closer to the track and anything on the strip or even Fremont St. Its right off I-15 or even a straight shot down Craig Rd to Nellis Blvd which will take you in the back way into the track.

The biggest issue with Uber is getting a ride back from the track. Very long lines and I’m sure it’s cost $50-$70 on the race days.

Paris probably wasn't the best choice for a place to stay while attending a race in Vegas..... but since it's your first time in Vegas I can understand wanting to stay down on the strip and get that experience in the evenings when you're away from the track. Between renting a car and paying for parking at the hotel VS paying for Uber rides to/from the track each day might be a tossup, price wise.... depending which car you rent. (small and cheap VS big and expensive) But having your own car available sure is convenient.... and if convenience is wroth anything to you then it might be better to just get the car. Also, Paris has a monorail station attached to the back of their hotel where you can catch the train. It runs north/south from MGM Grand near the south end of the strip all the way up to the Sahara Hotel near the north end of the strip. (yes, it's officially called the Sahara again) It's been about 14 years since I rode the monorail but I remember it was a cheap and easy way to get from one end of the strip to the other. It's only like 10 minuets between trains and you can pay "per ride" or buy "daily passes" and ride it as much as you like. The monorail won't get you to the race track but if you don't rent a car, it's a great way to move up and down the strip. The only reason I mention the monorail is because it's pretty much out of sight. (behind all the big buildings) If you're walking on the strip you probably won't see it and most newcomers don't even know it exists. It can come in really handy if you don't have a car.

I have done this many times. Mid strip is a great place to be. You’re on vacation! The cost of Uber is like 2 hands of blackjack. Just do it. Having said that, it has always been a problem getting back from the track. Taxis and Uber don’t like to venture that far for pickups. Only once been successful getting one to show up. So the last time, I tipped well on the trip there and took the drivers number to text for the return. Didn’t show. There are lots of rides hanging out in the rideshare/taxi lot but many are independent, shady looking and try for big $$$. We eventually took one, weren’t sure where they’d take us or rob us so texted friends the plate number. So it’s an adventure. But still worth a shot to try to book a return with your Uber driver.
You also may try this for getting back from the strip …. Ask around in the Uber lot to see if anyone has a ride ordered to the strip and offer to split it with them. We did that a couple times. Also note that it may be better now but phone can be spotty at the track. It’s funny because it’s not that far from the strip. You can see it. But with traffic it can be a tangle for drivers.
One year, got Uber at the airport, made arrangements to use him for both ways to the track on Sat/Sun and back to the airport Monday. $200. I expect off the books but he was right on time everywhere. Guys gotta make a living. Unfortunately, he moved.

We stay on the strip. Getting to the track is no problem, as others have said here, it's getting back after the race that is the challenge.
After one particularly cold windy hour and a half standing around waiting I decided to drive ourselves from then on. The Freeway usually moves pretty well.

if i could pick events to attend (other than BIR), it would be epping, seattle, sonoma, vegas. would love to see side show air force display from nellis.
that cannery row really looks like a nice location, if you're not into the strip. the last time wife and i were in vegas, we stayed at the stardust,
and before that was the plaza just a couple years after the fremont experience was installed. i'm a fan of car rental when away on vacations.

I would recommend renting the car. Even if you only use it for driving to and from the track, it will save you money, and most importantly, lots of time.
In my opinion, Vegas 2 is the best race on the calendar. Big car counts, Halloween shenanigans, fast track and the Strip at LVMS is a tremendous facility.

I have found LVMS one of the easiest tracks to get in and out of.

The VIP parking parks you across the street in the NASCAR tracks lot. Very short walk into the track and pits. If you leave with everybody else they will force you the opposite way to Las Vegas Boulevard. You can turn right and it will take you to the strip. However lots of lights and of course traffic. You can also take Craig road back to I-15. If you turn left from the track it willl take you about 4 miles im the wrong direction but it connects with I-15. I find that the quickest way to the highway.
