Track Auctions (1 Viewer)

I know this might not be popular to say at the moment, but I really enjoyed the IHRA events and competition. It was fun watching the fuel altereds and outlaw pro mods. I really enjoyed the lesser known top fuel and funny car competition. The events were great to watch and there were great track personnel that I hope find some good jobs elsewhere.
Met a lot of the IHRA workers all were above and beyond. Even met DC at Columbus and he took time to speak to me. Was looking forward to MG and Dunn again for the 3rd time and 5 events in 27.

Hey, if you were a successful pro racer and made some money, this might be the time to buy a drag strip so you have something to do in retirement!

Definitely....or a consortium of racers/sponsors, etc. Absolutely opportunities now.

Here's a thought - Toyota buys one to use for testing for their racing division, which clearly is involved with NHRA.

Didn’t Toyota announce their withdrawal from supporting drag racing?

IF there was any money to be made in drag racing, business people would be lined. up to buy them.
IF you are a billionaire and want to become a millionaire buy a drag strip
There are reasons very few buy a drag strips and keep them drag strips

Ford developed an engine for F1 they probably spent enough to run "NHRA" for 20 years.

Hmm, I wasn't aware of that, was only thinking about their sponsorship deals with Kalitta.

But, then, perhaps another manufacturer could step up. If not just for drag racing, for part of their testing, etc. Could then keep a strip open for a future race purpose rather than turn it into something not race/auto related. And who's to say TRD might not return at some point too.

You're right but then there are reasons large businesses/conglomerates might buy one even if they know it's a money loser. Tax write-offs, locking in a cash flow despite the loss.....who knows. Big business can do big wierd sometimes. Losing money and losing resources can be different.

I'm still holding out for hope for these properties. Might be in vain but time will tell.

You can make money with a Dragstrip, but it is a full time job. You can't just have cars on the strip Friday and Saturday.

You need to be creative, and generate income when you're not racing. Bader does it, Chris Blair (Gateway) does it.
The Bandimere's did it. It can't be a side project, it is a job.

Yep all of those, you're right. And you left out - Take care of the customers/fans. All three you mentioned do/did a great job there too.

Look around and see how many wealthy people are racing, very few of which pay their own race bills. There are a few that do, did, and after a few years get tired of spending a million or two a year with no return and stop racing. They also understand there is little money in owning a race track. Successful people are successful for a reason they do not spend a dollar unless three is coming back.
