Tony Schumacher And The Canopy

I remember watching the David Powers mono strut car run on a Monday in Gainesville, and Hot Rod Fuller almost crashing it. I believe that he told them he would quit before he drove the car again, and to my knowledge it never ran again.

The car is in Australia and I'm told there will be more testing, but I don't have any first hand information. Does anyone?

Alan

I don't think it would of come down to Fuller quitting, I don't think the NHRA would of approved it.

It not being approved doesn't stop you from testing. Tony sure ran the canopy before it was approved.

Hot Rod HATED the thing

I may partially agree with Samuel, but I think the broader reason is dependency. We are turning into a society where we are taught to complain and whine about what we don't have (and, in almost every case did not attempt to work for) and look to a higher authority (all too often the government, but in this case the NHRA) and cry that it is not fair.

Well in this case you do not have it, and somebody else built it (where have I heard something like that before ... pause while some catch up) AND the NHRA approved it. It sounds like they are not going to take it away without a whiner going through the effort to scientifically back up their complaint. Thank God for that.

While I could care less whether our series sponsor has a cool name (but I'm thankful we have one), I do think that drag racing is all about innovation and advancement. Thanks to Don's team and the NHRA for letting us get where we are now. Other teams, it is time for you to pull up your big boy pants and work a little harder ... the pro's don't bracket race.

I mean, I can kinda sorta understand if Don had it locked down to just his teams, but he's making it available to other teams for a price.

Either way there is nothing unfair here. Anyone could have it, it's just money and a choice. Who gives a crap when they got the canopy, there is no advantage and everyone speaking out against it is looking like a complete jackass

I heard this deal is getting heavy! Forrest Lucas and Connie Kalitta are NOT happy over this deal! I heard nobody else can get one till next year!!!

Look up Aerodine Composites on the web. Give them a call with your MC or Visa ready and find out if the canopy is available!

It was passed as being a safety improvement. That is why it couldn't be withheld until the next season. NHRA would be liable for someone getting hurt if this device was not allowed once it was approved.

This has nothing to do with cost.

The advantage that Schumacher possess is that the canopy cannot just be purchased and installed. The setup of the car would be affected and the other teams would have to do testing to adjust the setup of the car. Schumacher's already done all that testing, so they are ahead of the learning curve. Although there is no areo advantage(which I doubt) they are way ahead in the testing of the product. If others had purchased it hoping it would be approved, they would have long ago used up their in season testing limit. Schumacher had the advantage of testing it in the offseason.

Remember when racing was really cool? When someone was innovative others would applaud and often take notes. Now people are quick to call their attorney and throw stones.
