The slower show! (1 Viewer)

Who likes the new track prep rules and slower shows!
When do you think the funny car 1000’ foot national record of 3.79 will get broken? Probably never!
Think we will even see a high 3.80 run before the end of the year?
Selling a lesser show! Way to go NHRA!

At least now it's not strictly whoever has the most money to throw at it wins. They leveled the playing field and accomplished what they needed to do, slow down the fuel cars. They couldn't keep it the way it was and expect it to last.

The track prep is the BEST thing NHRA has done in a very long time. It has brought drivers and tuners back into the game and made it racing again with a little of the unexpected happening on the track.

I love seeing how many of the lesser funded teams have been going rounds. It's no longer a given who will win first rounds.

I think as the larger funded teams get more data you will see the lesser funded teams have a tougher time going rounds. But it's fun right now.

Seriously Bob, if you hate it so much, stop watching it! It seems like you have to chime in on a regular basis to remind everyone that YOU are getting shortchanged with the new track prep. If you are trying to get people to agree with you, it doesn't seem to be working too well!

I love the new prep...I got tired of seeing the same cars running the same numbers winning every weekend. Anything above 310 mph with high 3 second to low 4 second runs with a few pedal jobs thrown in is awesome. Thank you NHRA.

Yes, but it’s seems it’s mostly due to the higher funded team having a bad run and not like the lower funded team is out racing them. It’s still the haves and have nots and some are out there just filling the fields with little hope of beating the other side on a clean run.

This is laughable. JFR and DSR have won the last 7 races in funny car in a row! The same teams are winning, and it's less of a show.

something had to happen. yes, the entertainment aspect of potential record runs is now gone. maybe the cost to race has stabilized a bit?

But wait Bob it gets worse! NHRA has made a terrible decision to bring their traveling road show to Denver Colorado next weekend where the altitude is over a mile high. How are the cars going to set national records there?!? What a waste of time! The cars go so slow at Bandimere that there's usually only 5 or 10 people in the stands all weekend long because it's so boring. The racers and crews all complain about how terrible the facility is, how terrible the Bandimere family is, and how they hate racing there, yet NHRA has kept it on the schedule for 40 years. Not only that, it's one of the handful of events that gets broadcast live on Fox's national station. Man, what are they thinking?

Being born and raised in Denver, I have no idea how I became a diehard drag racing fan watching such a slower show over the last 40 years.

I was in Miramonte @ 10,000 ft I am surprised you are still alive...gasp..........a lot of guys got sick there, could not sleep.........

It's not the 60's. There can't be records broken in the fuel classes like years ago, these cars are just too fast. It's just amazing what these teams can do, in less than 10 years going faster on a track 320ft. shorter, and in Funny Cars to boot! But it just can't be about that so much anymore, for many reasons, but especially for safety and costs. I go to a national event to enjoy the whole show, fuel cars on down. So I don't need to see record runs to say that I had a good time.

Once the records didn't count for points, I pretty much lost all interest in them. They don't mean much now. However, I do enjoy watching different teams do well, and I appreciate the need to find a cost-effective, and quick way to reel the Fuel cars back in. So I'm a fan of the current track prep situation not only for my personal entertainment, but for the overall safety of the sport.

Mt Evans is about an hours drive west of Bandimere. It has the highest paved
Road in North America. Upper parking lot is at 14,130 ft.

People ride bicycles to the top. The Mt Evans bicycle hill climb gets almost 2,000
Riders.

Nitro cars still ran 300 mph. Top of about 320 mph. And with Fri night qual the place is a sellout every year.

The track elevation is 5 800 ft.

They felt that they needed to do something to slow the cars. This was the easiest, cheapest and fairest way to do it. Sure it might not make for record performances but there is some surprise racing going on. Once the tuners have enough data the gap from last year's time to this year's will narrow a bit.

Imagine if we had messages boards when they changed rear ends and nitro percentage. How many "they'll never run X.XX or X mph ever again" were there? These men and women live to go fast and to squeeze everything they can out of the rules. This is just a minor blip that they will overcome.

Larry Crisp is the track specialist at Bandimere. All concrete surface with cooling coils under the starting area.

They bring in a big cooling plant for the race. I will try and post a pic after it is set up.
