I was up at North Star Dragway watching Nancy Matter last Saturday and the shutdown area is not very long there either! She had to make the first turn really fast and ran off the road a little. The last pass, she went all the way to the very end of the track. It makes me a wee bit nervous, but she knows what she is doing and how to handle that beast! I can't wait to see her run again. Y'all need to check it out. :D

Actually, Suzie...Nancy, and the rest of the alky cars, stopped on the track after each pass. In fact, of the feature cars, only the Outlaw Fuel Altered drivers made the turn offs at the top end. North Star's overall length from starting line to sand is 2706' leaving 2046' feet to slow down from a drastically reduced speed that those drivers are used to.

As far as 1/8 mile tracks go, North Star is considered a loooooooooooong one. When Aaron and Joe set the track record there eariler this year (3.58 @ 213) Aaron drove it way past the scoreboards which are 960' from the starting line...he got just one chute out and made the last turn with ease. I've run as fast as 163 there and stopped-and turned off-with no chutes.

Try this on for size, though. Where the finish line is presently located at North Star is what was once the starting line...and the track ended at the same spot! And, that old starting line was 300' further back than the original. The facility is in its 3rd incarnation. Back in '96 I went out there to test on a Friday night having never been down the track before. Track hooked well, car went straight, so I drove to the foam block. Oops! Ran a 4.86 @ 142. Used up a set of brake pads and a pair of rear tires getting that car stopped without going through the sand, through the net, and onto the kart track. Pucker factor 11.43!

Ok...Hijacking over.

On Nancys second run, she had to make the turn pretty fast and that is why she got off the road a bit. The guys had to rock the car to get it back on the return road. On the last run she went all the way to the end so that she wouldn't have to make the turn really fast!

I had a lot of fun up there and I hope they have more of those match races soon. It reminded me a lot of when I was a kid! :D

I always thought Joe was the "EYE CANDY MAN!" Have I missed something, again?
Actually, I'll be comparing the numbers to the old 1/2 mile strip the NHRA sanctioned in Riverside, CA or maybe to the 440 ft strip that was run on indoors back in the early 1960's in Chicago.

Give it a rest.

You are a bomb tosser.

For the record?

I'm very pleased that there will be 1000' Fuel racing 'till the end of the year.

I will also be pleased when shutdown areas can be improved to stop a very rapid race car, either Pro or Sportsman.

I will also be pleased to see 1320' racing return WHEN it is time.

I will still follow Denver this weekend as I would any other Drag Race, and same for the rest of the year, that IMO, over and out.

TREX:)
