You can bet that no matter how many races NHRA goes with this 1000' concept, alls people will say when Robert Hight runs a 4.02 or Tony Shoe runs a 3.80 is "That would've been a 4.72 or a 4.49! Bank on it.

And your point is?

Last year all people talked about was what place would they have been in "Under the Old Points System". I predict, no one will even remember "The Old Points System" by next year at this time.

Guy's, I really think you should all calm down about this. I would bet as was said in the first press release that this is an interim deal. It is amazing how many people have made the decision to not go an event or not watch an event on TV before even one 1000' foot pass has been made in front of them.
How do you know weather or not you like something before you see it?

If you go into something thinking it's going to suck, guess what? IT WILL!

Like it or not this is something that almost everybody that is actually involved in nitro racing is in favor of. Give it a chance and give the NHRA and crews a chance to fix what needs to be fixed.

Dan, I am with you about 1000 ft nitro racing. Let's see how it turns out and accept the fact that the majority of the drivers and/or team owners were in favor of this. It was not an NHRA mandate forced upon them, although it might have turned into one if that is what NHRA had to do, but it sounds like the drivers made the decision for them. This is better than canceling some races or teams sitting out races due to concerns about track shutdown length and/or catch nets, etc.

Your kidding me right? 1/4 mile times is everything to this sport! And any good 1000' time WILL be compared guaranteed!

You mean finishing in the top three of your division to even be invited to the World Finals, and funnys still ran as Super.

don't think I'll ever forget... as far as converting ET's? nope, just looking for who qualifies and who beats who. Numbers as Nice for those that think that's ALL this sport is about. Impressive, yes, But if the cars ran 3 seconds slower, I'd still watch.... hey wait, I did watch 8 second floppers and low 7 second AA/FD

Hey Joe, how's your protest in Denver, against 1000' racing coming along? Have the Hooter banners for the girls been made yet? :p

1000' protest in Denver! - CompetitionPlus.com Forum

Everyone knows that all the racers, crew chiefs, crews, and the NHRA have been conspiring to do this, just to ruin your enjoyment of drag racing. :p
hahaha

No Karl, that's "The Antique Points System", and yes I do remember it very well too!:D

Perhaps the runs will be compared, for a while anyways, but I still don't see the point. You were the one that said they were "Pussifying" the sport. Personally, I would much rather see the current cars running 300mph at 1000' over seeing "Pussified" cars running 300mph 1/4 mile runs. Back to your point, once the cars are slowed down, what will they be compared to then? 1990 runs?

What does it matter if 1/4 mile is the way it's always been done? What's so magical about that distance? Nothing really. In actuality, 1000' racing puts more of the driver into the mix, there will be alot more holeshot victories now, and closer races. Mark my words, the 1000' Nitro racing will be alot more popular than you think, and probably here to stay.

Not trying to bring Nascar into the equation, but i remember how pitiful the COT cars looked with the Can Am wing but in time they have turned out to be a much safer car and provided much better racing. So as much as i don't like changing the heritage of Drag Racing i am willing to set back and watch and see what happens. Over the years i did a lot of 1/8 mile racing actually it was so easy on the race car we would race three times a week during peak season. So i will keep an open mind for now.:D

doubt it, there's a champion then there's a countdown champion, until they either do away with it or at least make the playoff teams race each other then the countdown champ is nothing more than a lucky lotto winner

I am all for what they are doing if it means I don't have to lose another friend in this sport!
The tracks have not evolved with the technology of the cars. Once the tracks catch up, I am sure we can all feel safe about going back to the quarter mile. Until then, WHAT EVER KEEPS THEM SAFE, SO BE IT!!!

Actually, I'll be comparing the numbers to the old 1/2 mile strip the NHRA sanctioned in Riverside, CA or maybe to the 440 ft strip that was run on indoors back in the early 1960's in Chicago.

Give it a rest.

You are a bomb tosser.

Hey Jesse, easy there fella.

A bomb tosser is a guy who says inflammatory things for no other reason than to get people's blood up.
