I'm with you, Tony. Well put, sir. 1000' drag racing is boring, if not sleep-inducing.... and also confusing, if not emblematic of the disconnect between the people who control professional drag racing and what is left of the sport's fans...

Well...that's not the point I was trying to make. I have a long standing tradition of posting "ZZZZzzzzZZZZzzzz" when I'm tired of people moaning about certain subjects.

Some people need to chill and let this play out.

What is there to play out Tony?
If it plays out, you may be out of a job.
There is nothing more detrimental and disasterous than short term thinking, and the NHRA has mastered that art completely. This new rule is a leak in the damn, and you know what happens next.
I really think pressure needs to be applied to return the sport to the rules in which it was built.

1000' is a direct clash with everything that is the foundation of drag racing and what drag racing "is". Just like football is played on a 100 yard field.
Do you think my kid, or any noobie will enjoy three seconds of racing? Can any old schooler actually identify with these silly new numbers?
It leaves the "burn out' as the only exciting part of the entire run..
That's just not enough to keep the turn styles turning IMO.

I'm with ya George, i know i'm only one person and no, i wont 'let the doorknob hit me', but my interest in nitro racing has dropped tremendously and i'm not even thinking about driving hours to attend 1000 ft racing. to the casual or remote fan, drag racing was already a short burst that was over quick and now by shortening it even more is not (i dont think) gonna help attract many new viewers

Amen, George.
Generally speaking, whether your a racer and/or a fan, we should all be concerned and not be ignorant until its too late.
I, along with other friends, no longer watch drag racing on TV as much as we use to because of this.
Whether we like it or not, this is a business that depends on sponsorship money.
If the fans aren't buying, then the market dries up.
In my opinion, I think the "product" is dull as it is right now. I was willing to give NHRA a chance to come up with a solution during the off season, and am disappointed they haven't yet.
Yes, certain tracks have so much history, but update them and if thats not possible than maybe cutting them out is an unfortunate option for nitro classes.
Its better than throwing out all the old record books and starting all over.
Maybe now we'll see Big Daddy climb back in for a full season cuz' at these slow speeds his eyes could handle it!!!
I hope im not offending anyone. This is my two cents is all.

X2..... 1,000ft is the best option at this time given the situation and environment. Those who don't like 1,000ft might have to wait a few years to return to 1320 fuel racing. I will continue to attend the races regardless of the distance, I love the nitro experience.

i agree with george, now , pro stock is the only class i look forward to watching. with the fuel cars both top fuel and funny car going over 300 mph @ 1,000 ft , the safety thing is out the window, every team is shortening the wick so now the explosions happen earlier so there goes the cost excuses. there is NO arguing the point that the 1,000 ft rule has done nothing but put another asterik on our sport just like the countdown fiasco that produces fake champions.

You guys never cease to amuse me.

No, I really do not think Drag Racing is "Doomed":cool: because the distance has been shortened to 1000', nor do I think it has not been made safer.

If you REALLY are looking for something that will drive a stake into the heart of the sport, it will be encroaching population, noise issues, eco wack jobs, gov't safety Nazi's, insurance underwriters, or just a tremendous collapse of the entire economy.

I still enjoy the sport, it has not diminished one iota to me, I'm used to the E.T's pretty much by now, and many of the sports legends and innovators are behind it.

Yeah, you can find a couple with a gripe about it, but like Conrad said last week, "it's the best solution we have right now".

I'm not gonna' argue with him.

Heck, just a couple months ago many of you nattering naybobs of negativity were predicting eight car fields and sponsors leaving in droves, and no new ones coming in.

Well, some left, and some new ones arrived, and so it goes, life goes on.

And all this in a pretty poor economic time for pretty much the globe.

So not too shabby so far.

And I do believe also, if you are no longer interested in the sport......because the distance has been shortened 320', and the E.T's are around 6-7 tenths quicker?

You were never a real fan anyway.

So who need's ya'
:)

I'll add another "Amen George"

I wasn't a fan of the initial change to 1000' but I've tried to watch it, but it's just not the same...and I'm just not that interested in what amounts to a reaction time contest

I guess to some people having 25% less of a race is OK. Me, I can't see how anyone that pays any kind of attention can not see the difference...

but if 1000' is OK with some, I guess that is what it is But why is it so hard to understand that some of us aren't happy about it and don't want to just sit back quietly and accept it...(and quietly accept the continued downward spiral of NHRA racing...I mean what was the last change that actually made things better?)

Went yesterday.

Last race I went to, Scott got killed.

Sat at 1000'. Sat at 660'. Stood at 330'.

Hated the fuel classes. That is a first for me in over 40 years of going to the drags. For the passes that actually went the distance, the missing 320' was noticed.

The "gas floppers", as Karl puts it, were great, and the sportsman racing was excellent.

I'm gonna go to LODRS and spend my money there. Get out to the MM and as many nostalgia things as I can. 3 seconds of ANYTHING is not enough.

I was well aware of your original point. I was being a little cheeky and more than a little sardonic.

My point was and is: ignore the discontent ("ZZZZzzzzZZZZzzzz") at your own peril.

Like Raymond Chandler once wrote (paraphrased from memory): "A guy takes it and takes it and then he doesn't take it anymore."

Bingo. That says it all. 1000ft is not real Drag Racing.

let's see jeff, case in point, Robert still hasn't equaled his 1000ft et from P1 or Firebird last year, close, but still not quite as quick, speeds about the same. shockingly, believe it's still the same ones killing parts at a thousand that were killing parts at a thousand... and it looks like the auto-deploy safety gear is working...

translation, in flopper, you had a good handful of mid 4.7 cars, a couple of high 4.6 cars, teach and jeff made the field with mid 4.8 passes...

hey, what do I know, I'm just a numbers freak...

4.63 or 3.97 in flopper 4.69 or 4.02...

look and I think you'll see the same in T/F...

cars are heavier, but they are generally clickin' off 300ft sooner, and they are going about 15mph slower at that point...
