The Barry Setzer car - it was getting to be common for the bodies to distort in the 70's. I think there may have been a number of reasons, like maybe the mounting of the body (?) or body wasn't strong enough (?). Herm Peterson - car was doing the fire burn out in the shut off area at OCIR. I remember that cuz I had the same magazine. heh Dale Armstrong AA/DA. That car had the Donovan engine & it was really quick. I think Armstrong also used a Donovan in his Altered and also in the Alcoholic BB/FC. And the Moby Dick Corvette. The story I heard was that the Vettes were spooky to drive. Tom McEwen figured out that if you put a "spill plate" from around the rear window to the spoiler, that calmed the car down & they went straight. I think the Moby Dick car had the same problems & they did like McEwen. That was a fast car & loved the name. Ya ever wonder why the 392 Chrysler was called a Whale Motor and the 426 was called a Elephant Motor? Not to mention the Chevy Rat motor & Mouse motor.

Speaking of Dale Armstrong......

Armstrong started out with a Big Block Chevy in the altered, and won Pro Comp at the ‘74 Indy Nationals. I think by The ‘75 Winters he had replaced the Rat with the Donovan. And later that year, came out with the Alcoholic BB/FC.

Mike, I might have one still. But I did use a couple of them. After about 12 washes
they would start peeling off. Bin going through all of my stuff lately and just found a
snake iron on from the mid 70s. Neil was from your part of country wasn't he?
Do you still have train sets

I saw the American Way dragster at Lions. Thought it was so cool; later read that it was spooky to drive cuz of aerodynamics. Garlits, Kalitta & Shirley. Would have loved to be a "fly on the wall" to know what they were talking about. Seem to be listening to Garlits w/ full attention. The photo shoot in front of the Lafayette Hotel. Gotta wonder what the people in the background were thinking. What is that? heh Man these photos are so cool! Bring back so many memories.

From Funny Car Pictorial Magazine. I would buy 2 of these magazine when they
came out, one to save the other to hang the pictures on my bedroom wall.
The magazine's we're printed on super heavy stock paper. These magazines will
go for $25.00 to $50.00 on eBay it maters what condition they are in. Back in the
early 70s when I got mine it was $1.50 a issue. I have 6 different ones. Hot Rod and
Car Craft magazines did the pictorials. This picture was taken from the roof of the
tower at OCIR
