PMRA Champion will be decided at final race at Cayuga Dragway (1 Viewer)

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (September 7, 2008) - Once again, the champion of the Pro Modified Racing Association's points race will not be decided until the last event of the year.

Since 2005, the PMRA has presented close heads-up drag racing, ending each season with an exciting final race where the annual champion was determined, and this year is no different.

For 2008, Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario has paced the field of PMRA Pro Modified teams, and presently leads with 1369 points.

Boland, who won the crown in 2007, is closely followed by Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, who has 1328 points.

Third in the standings is Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario, with 1281 points, and fourth is Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario who has 1279 points.

Going into the final two-day event at Toronto Motorsports Park, the rescheduled Third Annual Victoria Day Weekend - PMRA Challenge and Fourth Annual KC Auto Parts Family Day PMRA Challenge presented by Paul Wolf Electric & Lighting Supply Inc., Osram Sylvania and Independent Electrical Distributors, Brown, with the 1971 Dodge Challenger entry, Roth, in the J and J Racing 1957 Chevy, and the Smokin' Joe's 1999 Dodge Avenger of Boniferro have a mathematical chance of catching Boland and his B and B Racing 1963 Corvette for the 2008 Championship Point Award Series sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen.

There are several variables with the distribution of points in the next event, but if Boland qualifies and makes a couple of rounds, Brown will not be able to catch him. Brown has come on strong in the final events of the year, and won the Sanair race. Boland was co-winner of the New York International Raceway Park event in June.

In fifth is Jack Grainy of North Tonawanda, New York, with 1148 points, next in points is Randy Jewell of Holley, New York with his JFM Racing 1968 Camaro in sixth with 958 points, and Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario and his 1969 Camaro is seventh with 941 points. Eighth is Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York, in the G-Force Race Cars 1967 Camaro, ninth is Mike Cusimano of Rochester, New York with the Midlife Crisis team 1994 Corvette and 673 points, and tenth is the 1969 Chevy Nova of Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario with 672 points.

The sixth and final race of the 2008 PMRA season will take place at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park September 13 and 14.

Saturday of the two-day event will feature eliminations for the eight-car field that qualified June 28 and qualifying for the rained-out May event run in unison.

Round one action on Saturday will see the pairing of Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York, versus Jack Grainy of North Tonawanda New York; Ralph Andreacchi of Bolton, Ontario versus Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario; Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario versus Larry Sinke of Welland, Ontario; and Mark Nielson of Brantford, Ontario versus Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario.

Sunday will see the eight quickest teams return from Saturday's qualifying for the championship eliminations.

The PMRA racing will be complimented by rounds in the Super Street Outlaw 10.5 Series, the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series and the Joe's Transmission TNT 10.90 and 8.90 Super Series.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, Pro Modified Racing Association, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its fourth year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The series has event venues in Ontario, Quebec, and New York State.

Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing's most exciting and colorful classes, offering a diverse group of race cars with different types of 2,500-horsepower supercharged, nitrous powered and turbocharged engines.

Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
