I only spoke with him a few times but our driver/team owner, Don Lampus (you did some modifications to our chassis) were good friends.
We raced at Columbus where Darrell won with Wayne Dupuy in '04. Our team was part of his celebration dinner that night and two races later......he was gone.
Didn't know him well, but liked what I did know.

I will always remember how I heard what happened. I called my cable provider to complain about the NHRA getting shafted again but the girl on the line told me there was a big accident and someone had passed away and that's why they pulled it. I was shattered to say the least. He was my favorite driver at the time because he drove for my hero.
