CHARLOTTE, NC (May 1, 2011) – Greg Stanfield and his Stanfield-Yonke Racing, Coffman Tank Trucks, Nitrofish Pontiac GXP team went into the 24th annual O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals with one goal, taking over the points lead, and they were oh so close.

Stanfield would qualify in the ninth position heading into Sunday’s eliminations. With the Pro Stock car class being the most competitive class in the NHRA, Stanfield knew he would have to do his job on the tree come race day.

Stanfield began the day taking out Ron Krisher first round and the number one qualifier of Ronnie Humphrey second round. He would however, eventually lose in the semi-finals to race winner, Vincent Nobile, but by only six feet. Even though Stanfield and his team didn’t win the race, they did gain crucial points on the leader.

“We had a great points day,” said Stanfield. “We are getting close to a win and I know we will get one soon, just got to keep working hard. We are pumped and will now go get ready for Atlanta.”

Stanfield heads to the Atlanta Dragway second in the NHRA Full Throttle Championship point standings. He is only one point out of the lead.

The next stop for the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Series is in Atlanta, GA in two weeks, May 13-15.
