Smith and Phillips

I guess I must be dense, cause I didn't. Please explain.

Rick

Matts wife, Angie, has won championships riding no wheelie bar nitrous outlaw bikes.

I could be wrong here, but isn't 6.847 faster than 6.87? Hector must be cheating.

It's not the fact of the e.t. its the fact that Phillips bike picked up more than 2 hundreths of a second from the half track to the finish line that Arana's bike did. MPH is usually the true indicator of horsepower, and Phillips' bike definately has that. Kind of like how W.J. used to have the top mph in pro stock for so long.. he made the most power.

Can't we escape this crap ANYWHERE now.......

Geez,

For some years now, Drag Racing in general and Pro Level NHRA seemed to have been gender-blind and color-blind. Somehow, if you ran the number, you were the man.

I don't know Matt's heart or Michael's heart (Heck, nobody was a better story when he finally won some races) but, I don't follow Drag Racing 'cause I want to argue left or right politics or worry about racial politics. I heard the comment during the broadcast and thought (hoped) I'd mis-heard it. In any event, if either one of these fellas' has a problem with the other, they oughta' take it outside the fence (metaphorically speaking) or shut-up about it.

It's the kind of thing that is going to sully anybody who touches it (and I don't want my sport to be another socio-political minefield).

you got it right Jim
If micheal was offended by anything matt said he should keep it off TV. There is enough name calling and slime ball behavior in the rest of the world. I come to a drag race to forget about all that and enjoy the sport i love

I wonder what they found after they took sledge hammers to the engines.:D

I always found it amazing that they would destroy expensive engines to cover their @$$'s.

They couldn't find it in Eckman's either...well not until he accidentally showed it:D

Bad example there. The NHRA just wanted a fall guy and Jerry was sadly it.

Back on topic, I honestly don't think Matt is a racist. I also don't think Michael is cheating. He just seems to have found a combo that is working great.

Mike Edwards ran everyone out the door last year (and for much of this year), I never seen anyone accusing him of cheating.

NHI

Finally, someone not using all that TV to thank their sponsors or to remind us that Rusteez has sponsored them for the past 25 hours. Who's going to go all A.J. on the other first?

If I remember correctly it was just the blocks that got the sledgehammer treatment. Blocks aren't that expensive, and I'm sure they'd rather sacrifice a couple of those to the sledgehammer than admit they were cheating. Any engine builder worth a crap keeps detailed notes of what they've built. To not be able to duplicate their performance after the "break-in" speaks volumes.

As I understand it, it was the heads as well, and Mopar urged them to drop the B1 program and start developing the Hemis.

Hector's pass was indeed 3 hundredths quicker for the whole quarter mile, BUT Michael's bike was 2 hundredths quicker from half track to the stripe and ran a bigger MPH ... which is also quicker and faster than anything any other Vance and Hines engine customers can duplicate.

Removing all other nonsense from this story it boils down to this for me: would Matt really stick his neck out and say these things publically and deal with all of the fallout if he didn't have a good reason to? This isn't Matt's first rodeo, he grew up in those pits, he knows what it means to go on record and call a competitor a cheater.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few races. Will Vance and Hines say something? Other competitors? Will Michael be absolved?

It could be that WJ was a great analogy ... for years his cars were dogs to the 60 foot, mediocre to the 330 cone but absolute monsters on the back half. So it's not as though what Michael is doing is unprecedented.

I don't know, but I might actually watch PSM to find out ...

Most of what I've seen of Michael Phillips is chip-on-the-shoulder arrogant. I'll say it right to his face if I'm ever given the chance. That may be an unfair assumption...some will say he's really decent off-track... but I call 'em like I see 'em...and that's what I see of him. Arrogance.
Respectfully, Carl Lowell

That statement discribes Michael to a tee. He have the attitude that he will not get even, he will get ahead. Always feeling he have something to prove(like Angelle except she could bite her tongue). He was always at the track working on his combination to prove that he could make it. I don't believe that he is cheating like I don't believe that Matt is a racist.
That's one thing about living in south La.. I have seen some good pro stock riders come up from Wilbur J. Gary, Micheal, GT, Angelle, Redell(he would be fast if he worked on his riding style), and now LE.

Of course they urged them. They were heavily involved in not only Pro Stock, but the NHRA as well at the time and they were about to have big-time egg on their face. Moving to the new design gave them the perfect out. At least the perfect out to the vast majority of the casual fans that couldn't see the forest 'cause the trees were in the way.

Like the late, great Buddy Morrison once said about this whole fiasco, "All I know is if I had a 6.90 motor, I'd rebuild it...." Classic!

Matt (Smith) said on more than one occasion that he's verified with the people at Vance & Hines about MP's performance being bogus, but apparently he didn't talk to Matt..............

I do find it weird that nobody else with Vance & Hines horsepower is running anywhere near as good as MP, but then again, I don't know just how many teams are running their Suzuki's.

Assuming THIS is the link of the day:

PHILLIPS: I'M THROUGH WITH THE HE-SAID, SHE-SAID

Michael is making a BIG mistake here. I'm reminded of the one liner referring to "crap" in general "The more you stir it - the worse it smells"

He's dealing in highly charged stuff here - No good will come of it.

He'd be better off saying "Matt is a lying f**k (to accuse me of cheating) - Let's settle it on the track".

PSB is not a class for me, but I remember last year wondering where Hector came from all of the sudden....he picked up kind of out of no where just like Phillips this year....

I think racing is about mechanics and driving ability. It's measured in enjoyment sure, but more wins and loses at this level! The win light doesn't care what color you are. If you're on a roll, you should be man enough to hold your head up and say "I'm the baddest dude on the planet right now." And watch as they try and catch you! The E.T. slip speaks for itself. There's no room for racial issues on the 1/4 mile (or 1000ft). I'm disappointed in Phillips. Who cares how you may think someone feels about you. Let the damn bike do the talking!
