The article was about women in motor sports who were "Trail blazers". Shirley fits that group & was the only drag racer included.

At first, I thought this was about Shirley Shahan. She was the first woman to win an NHRA national event eliminator in 1966.

I think we've had women drag racers since Day One. CJ "Pappy" Hart's wife drove around 1951 (think her name was Peggy). Shirley Muldowney drove a twin Top Gas dragster before she went to nitro. I know there are a lot more women active in the faster classes, Nitro, Pro Stock, Top Alky, T/D, T/S, etc. Not to mention Sportsman classes & ET racing.
