Compton always reminds me of the guy who played mobster Billy Batts - who mistakingly got wacked in "Goodfellas" by Joe Pesci. Apparently, when Pesci's character in the movie was a kid he had quite a reputation in the neighborhood as a good shoeshine boy. So the mobster was making fun of him by telling him that he will always be that shoeshine boy to him (no respect) ... hence, go get your shinebox so you can shine my shoes. Pesci was having none of that and killing a made man brought them all down.
