Larry is probably one of the best top fuel drivers in NHRA today or at anytime for that matter. Allan Johnson had his choice of ANY driver ( other than Schumacher) and he selected Dixon and paid a large fee to assure his release from the Snake. Maybe Johnson's setup reacts quicker than others and Larry is being careful not to red light, Maybe the are trying different clutch settings, Maybe he had a couple of bad lights so what. They are in the top few in points , will make the countdowns without problems. So, if they are experimiting at bit now and those adjustments work, just think of the advantaage they will have after Indy, going for the final races of the chase. The bad mouthers, may restate thier comments. Food for thought

I hate to break it to you but Larry had to buy his way out of the contract not Alan. ;)

It cracks me up that so many people think that they would just come out of the gate and dominate. Just because they managed to keep the crew together doesn't mean you can just plug and play drivers in and out at will, no matter how good they are.

It's chemistry, plain and simple. They may all get along great, but there are transitional, procedural and communication issues that also take place with a change like this that run much deeper than how well everyone "gets along". Issues that don't necessarily anger or upset people, but issues that simply need to be worked into any given individuals routine and dealt with. This stuff takes time.

But when everyone gets on the same page at Alan Johnson Racing, stand back........................it's liable to be devastating...................again.

Lotsa ways that could have been handled, Larry could have said, "I'd love to drive for you Sheik, but it will cost me X to get out of my deal with Snake" and Larry writes the check but negotiates a signing bonus to make up for it and he's all good. Bottom line, that's his business, I'm glad he got the opportunity, and Snake brings in new blood, so it's all good.

And you know the precise source of the money because... ?? I'd be shocked if the money didn't originate with the Sheik, regardless of who wrote the check.

I read numerous articles that stipulated that he had to negotiate his way out of the contract because he recently signed a extension with the Snake.
The articles I read were from Competiton Plus, Drag racing on-line and NHRA.
It did not say the Shiek or Alan were going to pay the buy out dollars in any of those articles that's not to say what may have transpired behind the sceens. ;)
Maybe Larry felt is was a good investment for his future who know's.

Kind of a sidebar here, but sometimes it kinda hurts a bit when our favs jump ship and go to another team. Sometimes to a team with no percieved NHRA tradition or history. But like I did with Capps and like I did with Larry, put yourself in their shoes and what's best for them.

Like I said, kind of a side.

Good weekend to all.

When you're talking about going from a team that has been year-to-year since the departure of Miller to a multi-year commitment and the seat of what should turn out to be the most dominant team of its era, I would say you're right, Bob.

Dittos on that, Steve. It was tough to see him go with all of that time invested. But you said it all when you said "what's best for them".

A bit of a side note here but did anyone notice Larry congratulating Spencer after the semi's? That guy is a class act!!
