Just saw through photographer Richard Shute's Facebook page that Funny Car Driver John Collins (vs DSR Tuner of same name) has passed away.

John was a great guy. Used to love going to Northwoods Inn in Long Beach after races as a kid with my dad, Bateman, John and a bunch of other guys from the track. Good times.

I'm crushed he was one of my favorites in the 70's!
I loved his Pioneer cars they had beautiful paint scheme's unlike today's vinyl wraps.
RIP Mr. Collins and my condolences to his family and friends.

Condolences to Johns family. Tough day losing both John and Chuck Beal. I was about 15 when I saw the black 280zx Pioneer car run here in Boise and thinking that was about the coolest looking funny car ever (the blue and yellow one was pretty sweet too). RIP John Collins
