Quick Move to Right Forces Koretsky to Lift in First Round

Kenny Koretsky got a good look Sunday at the Brainerd International Raceway guard wall in the opening round of the Lucas Oil Nationals and quickly aborted the run leading to a loss to Warren Johnson.

Johnson stopped the timer in 6.691 seconds at 206.64 mph to Koretsky's coasting 13.029 at 66.49 mph.

Eddie Guarnaccia, crew chief on Greg Hill's Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt team, said the abrupt move to the right Koretsky experienced may have been the result of an engine change prior to the race.

"We weren't happy with our last qualifying run on Saturday and decided to change motors," Guarnaccia said. "I think it woke up our performance too much for that lane. It's good to find that out now because we are going into Reading (Pa., site of the Toyo Tires Nationals, Aug. 17-19), and that motor appears to be pretty good."

Maple Grove Raceway, near Reading, is an important stop for the team because it is one of two home tracks for Koretsky and Guarnaccia. Koretsky is from Richboro, Pa., and began his racing career at Maple Grove.
