Has anybody else noticed that Dave Reiff has adopted a style of announcing similar to pro wrestling? It seems he has turned up the hype to Hulk Hogan levels once even making my German Shepherd bark at the TV during this past weekend. I'm all for excitement but not being yelled at by my TV is on my list of things I enjoy. Can they at least turn him down to the level of a Top Fuel car? Oh, and lose the fake "live" sounding echo on the live broadcasts. We are not that dumb. Sorry for the random bitch.

I think the "echo" happens occasionally and isn't by design. As for Dave, I always find his enthusiasm to be sincere, he really gets amped up.

Have you been to a race that is being televised live Jet? If you had, you would realize that as soon as they go live on ESPN2, the commentary from Rieff and Dunn are being piped through the PA system at the track, thus causing that fake "live" echo as you call it. Better watch out, you just may be calling yourself dumb ;)

As being in the pro audio industry for 40 years I think I understand the concepts and sound of echos without calling myself dumb, unless you are calling me dumb Michael. I do understand they switch to live modes also but they are in an isolated booth so they can announce during a run. The echo thing though was just a passing comment I'm just wondering why the newly amped persona?

I'm going go bring it up again but the best broadcast commentary was Steve Evans and Dave Mac, they were very subdued as well in comparison to today's stuff. Yet the commentary was awesome back then. Also correct me if I'm wrong but they never used the term "pedal fest" which is a term I dispise

Anyone is gonna pale in comparison to those too, but Reiff and Dunn both do a good job.

Classic dammed if you do, dammed if you don't scenario. When he gets amped up (and I also think it is sincere), some people are going to call him out. If he calls it straight, some people are going to call him out for that too (why doesn't he get more excited, these cars are going 300mph, things like that). I think it has just taken a couple of years for Reiff to settle in and develop his own voice.

Lastly, I will quote long time Knicks announcer Marv Albert, "If you try to please all the fans all the time, you end up in the stands with them".

oh man... it took a while but somebody finally found something to dump on reif for. i thought all the malcontents got there rocks off with Paul Page. guess not

I like the Dunn and Reiff combo. Although I didn't watch this past weekend so I don't know if he was different from normal, it is a huge improvement over the previous duo (or at least half of it) and some of the best since Dave and Steve.

I like Reiff,Met him last year at the hotel, real nice guy to talk to,stat man on the other hand, not so friendly, gives you a look like dont even try talking to me. Not like I wanted to anyway lol.

What is "Pro Wrestling?" Does someone actually watch it?

When Mike Dunn throws Dave to the floor in a triple gainer headlock (or whatever you call it) then they have sunk that low.

I don't want this to turn into ass kiss rodeo on my part, but both of my limited interactions with Stat Man Lewis Bloom have been pleasant. He seemed genuinely surprised I recognized him the first time. I also like the job Reiff does, and my few interactions with him away from the track have also been pleasant.

I know I was getting really tired of the "side....byside......byside.....byside!" Every quad. (also not a fan of that term.)

In my opinion, Reiff sounds like he's trying to hard to seem way into it. It seems like he's forcing it. Mix that with Dunn using "BEST IN THE BUSINESS" to describe everyone including the truck drivers, I eventually turn the volume down.

Try this: Take a shot every time Dunn says "BEST IN THE BUSINESS" and you will not see the semifinals!
