Pomona canceled, Just like that the Season is over, Bad decision by NHRA in my opinion (1 Viewer)

Just what was NHRA supposed to do?
They certainly do not control the weather. The awards ceremony was already booked, long ago, for the night after the race; meaning it could not be changed at the literal last minute.
And there’s no telling what kind of deposit was required for NHRA to book the event.
It’s not like this happens every season. Sure, it was extremely unfortunate. But, come on. It certainly doesn’t signal the death of NHRA. It’s not like they could just pack up and move to a track where it wasn’t raining. Besides, there’s no guarantee the next track would be dry. And, that would mean hauling back to SoCal for the awards ceremony.

The TF Championship was already called.

The PS and PSM Championships were headed to the same team owners. They couldn't lose.

TSR Had an outside shot of knocking off Prock

I think Tony had the most to lose.

Strictly my opinion.
Oh, OK.

I figured you were talking about the championships, and I didn't think Tony had a chance for the TF.
But I did forget about Hagan having a long shot in FC.

Thanks for the clarification. Thought I was missing something juicier lol.

Yes. Canceling a CHAMPIONSHIP race is unprecedented. Idk why that's difficult to comprehend.

Look, I think the right call was made. Not bashing the NHRA over something completely out of their hands. I just think some changes need to happen so that a championship event doesn't get axed.
Spencer, what changes would you make? Unless you have a crystal ball, you can never plan for every possible unforeseen situation. And the weather will always be a moving target.

I have a better understanding of what they tried to do after listening to Cromwell on Speed Freaks. That is why the communication thing is so important. I still question having 2 races at Pomona. Even when it is perfect weather the crowds are lacking considering the population base in Southern CA. Not trying to be disagreeable but maybe Vegas makes more sense as the Finals, Sema and the winners' banquet all at the same place.

One time is one time too many for drag racing's premier series imo. This should raise concerns. Don't get me wrong, they made the right move when it comes to safety. But not being able to run your championship race because of factors beyond the weather is unprecedented.

This doesn't even make sense. What factors beyond the weather? If it wasn't for the weather their wouldn't be other factors.

Not comparable. Those cars don't need rubber on the track to safely perform. They also don't make 11,000 hp.

NHRA was out of options to safely put on a race and the racers agreed with them. Having the race there or anywhere else was not an option.
I completely understand the negatives about trying to run the race. I only said it was a bad look, that's all.........

Tricycle laps around the pit area. 10 lap sprint. Chug a beer after every lap.🍺
The NHRA would have a tough time with policing that race...
The Force teams would be scrutinized for traction control devices.... solid tires with drywall screws from the inside.
The Pro Stock teams would be taking shots of whipped cream for the nitrous oxide.
The Top Fuel teams would be accused of tipping the can.... Boilermakers instead of beers
And the PSB teams would be complaining that they aren't used to 3 wheels.... so you add 10 lbs to the loudest whiners

Maybe swapping Vegas 2 and Pomona 2 could be something to be considered.

so why not settle the 2025 Championship, at the the first race in 2026. Racers could accumulate their normal 2026 points but also count points intended for the 2025 finals. That's a wacky idea, but it's better than cancellation. This whole scenario kinda reminded me of How the 'Sopranos' Ended :p

i guess nhra can be glad they didn't have a company like budweiser trying to run a specialty race for big money this last weekend,
or on halloween weekend like they did back in the day ....... here's what it looked like in '94

no telling where they will be in 26. Crew chiefs and drivers sometimes move on.
