So what happens to the money from sponsors for the weekend? Not really talking about teams that have a full time sponsor but say someone like Paul Lee, who have a sponsor just for this event. I’m not sure what clauses are in the contracts, but I would assume a sponsor would feel that they didn’t get what they paid for. And I know that no runs were made but there was still money spent on crews, lodging, transportation, etc

I’m bummed too but I’m happy I didn’t travel there to watch it rain. If this happened three times out of five years then I would agree. But it happened once.

One time is one time too many for drag racing's premier series imo. This should raise concerns. Don't get me wrong, they made the right move when it comes to safety. But not being able to run your championship race because of factors beyond the weather is unprecedented.

As much as I dislike NASCAR they would have stayed or figured out a way to get the race run. I'm aware they were up against bad odds but still a bad look.

Not comparable. Those cars don't need rubber on the track to safely perform. They also don't make 11,000 hp.

NHRA was out of options to safely put on a race and the racers agreed with them. Having the race there or anywhere else was not an option.

the contract clause is called Force Majeure and in this case, it's caused by a n act of Mother Nature. I suspect that the sponsor will get the donation back less expenses because the Paul Lee Team acted in good faith and the results are out of their control.

Surprised Cormwell went on Speed Freaks , normally all you here is crickets. They made the right call only problem I see is fans are not offered a refund for there tickets.

Man people sure forgot about Gainesville first round awfully quick. After Tripp crashed everybody was ready to hang NHRA for running the cars on a track that was dry, but not in great shape. Water had peeled the rubber up, all the same stuff. NHRA says --"Well we can't have a repeat of that mess"....and now people are mad the other way for not running the cars. That's not counting all the other stuff that went along with it.

NHRA was put in a bad spot. The teams were put in a bad spot.

TSR had the most to lose in this deal IMO. If Tony is OK with how things worked out, there's really not much else to say.

Some of the comments here and on social media blow my mind, but I totally expected them. Like many, I can make a long list of things I think NHRA could do better, so I'm not biased. But man, it amazes me how people, even after hearing all the facts, insist on bashing NHRA, for making a decision that really seemed like the only one to make. For those who suggest moving the date or venue in the future, you have to realize planning events around weather, especially a year or so in advance, is always going to have risk. It is what it is. Drag racing isn't football. Or like any other motorsport for that matter. Looking forward to PRI and then 2026!

look up not only weather forecast, but watch past, present, and future radar. when you stand in line for an event and buy a ticket when the likelihood
the event will not be held due to weather, who's fault is it when event rains out? is the buyer always always entitled to a refund, even if the ticket was
purchased the same day as the rain soaked event?

I believe ticket holders will receive a credit for 2026.

For smaller budget pro teams (if there are any left), extra days or an extra week in hotels, flights back and forth, food on the road when the season was ending, and budgets are running out would be difficult. But the biggest issue might be that they have the Pechanga Resort Casino all set up for the NHRA awards banquet, which is tonight.

I'm certain we would've not stayed. All of us have jobs during the week. A couple of our guys are business owners, another has a baby due soon, another is a tech for Ford, good luck getting back-to-back Saturdays off and I had some health issues during the summer and I'm out of PTO.

Yes. Canceling a CHAMPIONSHIP race is unprecedented. Idk why that's difficult to comprehend.

Look, I think the right call was made. Not bashing the NHRA over something completely out of their hands. I just think some changes need to happen so that a championship event doesn't get axed.

The TF Championship was already called.

The PS and PSM Championships were headed to the same team owners. They couldn't lose.
