This just shows how NHRA rates at ESPN/ABC/Disney compared to INDY CAR racing, the wine and cheese crowd complained about Pauls never ending miscues and got him swapped for Marty. The beer and chips crowd (NHRA) don't rate high enough in the wall street world to get what they want. They know that drag racers will stay up to midnight to watch same day coverage, even if it's 30 to 45 minutes late, so why not give us who they want, and not who we want. Marty and Mike have such a nice smooth flow to there broadcast, but I think thats because Marty really does love the sport, and for Paul it's just another job.

Well that bit of news will save a lot of space on my Tivo hard drive.

This is crazy.

So people are NOT going to watch because of who is announcing!?? Pfft..I'm in and don't give a rat's ass who's talking. I can bypass all that sh!t for the racing.

Ya know I'm thinking this may not be bad move. Now wait here me out. I don't like his announcing on drag racing either. But since NHRA is already runining our sport with the fake chase for the cup next year. NHRA hopes that will boost ratings, with Page in the announcers chair that just can't happen. I actually watched several races on mute this year or in fast foward when he was in the booth.

Anyway if he's in the booth chasing tv viewers away, the ratings go done we can blame the new points system and in 2008 order will be restored.

hey I can dream can't I

Exactly, you know damn well that they will watch, if for no better reason than to come on here and other boards and BITCH about it.

Agreed as long as he is partnered with someone that knows what they are talking about(i.e. Mike Dunn) it doesn't matter. I can't tell you one thing the announcers talked about in yesterday's broadcast. But I can remember each round of racing.

I really hope this isn't the case, I think Marty's great, and if he's tied up with IRL I could live with them splitting the season again. Not that splitting the season's the best thing, but half a loaf is better than no loaf. I don't know how many times I said to myself during the Marty races, "Thank God Marty still wanted to do NHRA and that NHRA let him do the non-conflicting races." If NHRA wants the same person for all 23 races, than why not put Dave Rieff in the booth with Mike and hire someone to replace Dave. Dave does an excellent job hosting NHRA 2 day and would do equally as good of a job in the booth. Dave has done very well as a pit reporter for years and I would rather see ESPN promote from within, than go with someone who is clearly out of his element. NASCAR has done this with Mike Joy and Dr. Jerry Punch.

Nothing against Paul, but I would rather have Marty in there. I caught up with Mike Dunn in the pits in Las Vegas and was telling him how much better I liked it with Marty back. But it's not going to stop me from tuning in. Maybe it's not his choice, after 16+ years in radio I've seen the higher ups do some pretty dumb ass stuff.

Paul Page all 23 races next year...

Richard, that bit of info has been beat to death (somewhat) in this previous thread on Nitromater: http://www.nitromater.com/nhra/3134-your-viewing-pleasure.html

You must have missed it since it didn't exactly mention Paul Page in the title. That announcement on CompPlus came out last weekend, and people jumped right on it. 36 posts and over 2400 hits on that thread.

Doesn't make me too happy, but whadda ya gonna do? Obviously ESPN did not care what a small number of internet whiners think of him. I'm including myself in that group by the way. He isn't my choice or even close.
