You know, as much as my immediate reaction is "Hoh-lee-foook", it does occur to me that I did find a way to make it through the broadcasts he did this season. I can't remember exactly how, but I suspect it was some combination of beer and the mute button.

I wish I lived closer to more tracks or could afford to go to more events in person. I guess I should start an NHRA Trip savings account. Heh. I tend not to watch the TV coverage when i go to the track.

I mean, things could be worse. When I think of how, I'll get right back to you... ;)

What do you do?? Well you could go sign a petition.. OHH speaking of.. Here's a link to one.>>> Online Petition*-*Boot Paul Page from ESPN / NHRA Drag Racing Broadcast

Jon,

I took your advice and checked out that petition, and was about to add my name to it, but checked out the names already on it first. Then I decided it was pointless. Here are a few examples of supposed people that signed the petition:

Ben Dover (yeah right, this is a real name)
Don Garlitz (typo on Big's name or a real person?)
Marty Reid (yeah, I can believe he signed it)
.
.
.
and several people that signed it 2, 3, 4 times. Can you say ballot box stuffing?

Yeah, I'm sure most were legitimate, but those that weren't taint the whole petition, so I'm not bothering.

I agree Kurt... I found the petition over on DragRaceResults.com's forum..
It seemed like a good idea when I was one of the first 50 that signed it.. Of course some can't use real names and others if you take the time to read comments make a joke of even that part.. I also don't see what good it does to sign it as anonomous (sp?).. If people would have used their names and took it seriously... WELL it probably wouldn't have made a difference BUT it would have been worth a shot...

I didn't think Paul was any worse than Marty. Marty is like the Alex Trebek of dragracing. He looks and sounds like he's reading off a teleprompter and could care less about the sport. Paul, to me, is just a different kind of annoying. Marty may love the sport and be very knowledgable and be a great guy for all I know.

It doesn't matter to me who's in the booth. I can mute them as well as many drivers I can't stand to listen to.

How's this....

Maybe ESPN should drop the NHRA coverage, then maybe you can have something worth whinging about... Yes I agree Paul is not great, but who cares, I'm not going to lose sleep over it, I care about watching the racing, and I know what the facts are, so if some idiot screws it up, I just have to have a laugh, I'm not going to sit down on here and sook like a 2 yr old about it!

Get over it.

Mike

Earlier this year at Columbus I spent some time with Paul and we discussed the TV deal. He told me that he really loves Drag Racing and said he has always tried (depending on his schedule) to go to the U.S. Nationals because he IS a Drag Racing fan. He agreed that his NHRA work in the booth needs improvement, he said he is trying to get better. He explained a few things (in detail) about how the shows are produced and directed. Thngs like segment time, and trying to make certain segments look like they run in order but don't always do while they're being done.

I like Paul as a person, he is a really nice guy and very friendly. I don't think he tries to do a bad job in the booth, he just needs to be better.

I hear where you're coming from, but for me, as someone still new to the sport, I may not always know when some idiot screws up and thus not know when to laugh at said idiot ...

Thankfully, I come here where people will bitch when he does screw up and correct him. Heh.

On the other hand, this idea of not watching drag racing on TV just because of Paul Page seems a bit extreme to me. But, that's the beauty of being human and blessed with free will. I do what I want and other people do what they want. Yay!

PAUL PAGE FOR 23 IN 2007?
Written by CompetitionPlus

Those that we asked close to ESPN2 are keeping quiet, but the reliable word that we are hearing is that former Indy 500 announcer turned drag racing commentator Paul Page will return for all 23 NHRA races in 2007.

THIS CANT HAPPEN...

I just read 6 pages of bullsh-t. Anybody ever think that he didn't ask for the job? His boss came to him one day and told him he was going to do it. What's he supposed to do? Quit?

I'm sure being the professional he is that he knows he needs a lot of polishing. I'm equally sure that during the off season he will get himself up to speed and do a much better job next year.

Some of these comments are pretty digusting. And this is the new, better mater? Give me a break!

Oh, this is the college football thread? GEAUX TIGERS! (LSU beat Tennessee today)
