Over 30,000 at CHRR?

.....anything going on at the DoubleTree at all.....
I don't understand the whole Double Tree "thing" - it's a bunch of old guys and old cars - that's the same thing that I saw all day at the track...
Why not put up a big tent with half a dozen bars at the end of track, the Geezers could grin & grip, drink & talk, or watch some Nitro runs...
Let us run a second session at 4.30pm , finish around 7pm...
The old non racing guys could then drive back to town for dinner & bed...

And why don't you go stage your own race? A reunion is just what it says - R-E-U-N-I-O-N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good to see you finally agree, that it's time to remove all racing from the California Hot Rod Reunion. They could easily change it to a two day event and have a ball, bring every Cacklefest™ car in the world and load them all with 35 gallon fuel tanks! There could be endless push starts, geezer rides, fire-ups and homage to the past.

Leave the on-track racing to those who are still racing, bring back the US Fuel & Gas Championships, run by Famoso Raceway, not the bureaucrats at the NHRA.

I suspect you were being a bit tongue in cheek with your statment but it's almost a 2 day event now. Sunday mostly draws flys not spectators, so that may be the best idea.

I think the reunions are very close to being able to stand on their own for 2 days especially with the addition of some match races and/or exibition runs.

You and I belong to the same organization and for as long as I have been a member, the main CHRR focus has always been on the reunion itself, with the racing playing a secondary role.

I don't know who's idea it was to combine the CHRR with the Heritage Series, but if you know, take it up with them and let's end the reunion bashing.

If I am ever able to attend, it sure won't be to see those ugly front-motored fuel dragster wannabes. Here in the East, when I think of front-motored fuel dragsters, I remind myself of the six car display at the Garlits Museum consisting of, Gary Cochran, Chris Karamesines, Connie Kalitta, Creitz & Donovan, "Kansas" John Wiebe and one more, who's name escapes me. If that display doesn't take one's breath away, I don't know what will.

Lastly, I attend the Gatornationals every year, including doorslammer Thursday. Btw, I have been to more than 2/3 of them and still enjoy them.

Ditto on the ugly front engine dragsters. However, at the reunion you will see the largest gathering of coolest front end dragsters ever in one place at one time.

They light them off during the day Saturday, and Saturday night is the cackelfest where you can also hear them. That is why Saturday is standing room only.

As Darr said, Sunday only draws flys. Why? Because it is only a race.

Maybe someone who is in, "the know" can answer this. Is there in truth in the rumors floating around that next year will be an 8 car NTF field and an 8 car open AA/FA field?

Thanks

Mark you remind me of the current President, you accuse some of us of Reunion bashing, which we are not - are you now going to call us racist as well? You have not been there, yet you demand the status quo?

Adding a Friday night qualifier for nitro cars will hurt the Reunion? I call BS, take the racing out of the Reunion where it never should have been, NHRA is incapable of promoting and running anything like a Heritage Series because they have NO IDEA how to MONETIZE it!

There are NO drag racing promoters left at NHRA or the Museum, so leave it to the Famoso Raceway Staff to administer - rather than CONTROLLING the situation with in-town gatherings that are thinly supported, compared to the people who are dismissed from the track at 4:30 PM. You pick it, go to the Doubletree or stay and see a great round of Nitro qualifying for one of the most important, decisive races for Heritage racers of the year.

Easy, leave the racing to the racers, if spectators and racers want to visit the Doubletree for heir dose of "history" let them go! However there were over fifty NITRO cars there at the Reunion to finish their racing year (their World Finals) and they get two qualifiers. At every Heritage race over the course of the 2013 season there were three nitro qualifiers, get it? They, the nitro racers, pay their own way to get in and get a crappy payout that is vaguely referred to as being part of the support of the Museum, which is is not.

BTW, where was the mystery "administrator" of the Heritage series to hand out the Series Trophies and Event Trophies at the end of the Reunion, yeah, whomever they are were either back at the hotel or on their way back home.

Mark, you have the Reunion, nobody wants to take that incredible experience away from you, but having a real year end Final for the Heritage Series is not secondary, just in the wrong hands.

You and I belong to the same organization and for as long as I have been a member

I let my NHRA membership expire last year after many, many years of membership. I can't support a Sanctioning body that attempts to run by itself without giving anything worthwhile back to the sportsman racers. A pin, a patch, a rulebook, a video, National Dragster... um not enough for me.

NHRA could give a crap.

You have it a little mixed up, but the Top Fuel association was threatened with an 8 car field if there were less than 12 cars in competition for the Reunion. Heard that from two member/owners of the AA/FD Association.

A Fuel altered eliminator will be tried at some Heritage events next year, by Promoters, not by NHRA or the Museum.

Sorry, it was John Waters who stated Sunday only draws flys. Then again you could see the half empty stands on bangshift.

1. If you can show me where I mentioned racist/racism I will retract AND apologize, but you CAN'T!

2. Take this up with whoever is in charge of the Heritage Series and STOP BASHING THE HISTORY OF THIS SPORT!

3. I'm not an NHRA member either. I was referring to another organization.

Yes we knew the race had only 2 qualifiers... but my guys there from Alaska would have welcomed another shot Friday evening. We came to race and watch the Saturday night Cacklefest, no reason those things should interfere with any other Reunion activities.
And guys, 35 gallon fuel tanks on Cackle cars would just look silly.
But 20 could be just right.
