A whole event of sc isn't my bag but I am impressed by how fast they go and would love to see alot more of them mixing it up in comp/ ss/s classes

Maybe even pro mod????

I know when I go bracket race my daily driver (cobalt) half the cars in the street wars are of sc class. It seems to be a good entry point to the sport.

If they didn't have those bikini contests there would probably be 10 people in the stands.

BTW it's always comical to see one of those front-drive Hondas with the big wheelie bar. .

It may look funny, but it is a functional piece. excessive weight transfer unloads the front slicks, so they use those bars to keep the nose planted.

I surely didn't start this thread for it to be bash Sport compacts, simply out of curiosity as to the status of the class.

I think that those that are wanting to race have done as much as we can do as far as getting events scheduled and many have gone back to supporting their local tracks. Battle of the Imports is starting to become a bigger organization and hold more events. NOPI scheduled two events and then cancelled them, with one of those being a week later. They also didnt even inform the track owners that they would not be holding the race, it was a competitor that called to try and set something up that date regardless if NOPI was there or not. They have done many things to the industry that give them a bad reputation and their schedule was nearly impossible for those in CA, WA, OR etc to travel to events. So its still very much alive, just in all parts of the country :)

The Pan-American Nationals are going to be at ATCO July 18th & 19th.. its one of the largest sport compact events held...come check it out ;)

I saw a link to this thread over on another forum called Honda-Tech.com: Main Forum List there is a drag racing forum there where this topic has been discussed quit a lot.

Granted SC doesn't have the backing of NHRA any more but that doesn't mean that no one else cares. NOPI stepped up last Fall and people had hopes for a future. Even at that time some said BOTI was a better way to go.

It appears BOTI is tuning out the be the one that will keep SC alive.

My son and I raced in Quick 16 last season. This year were changing the car over to run in one of the Pro classes called Hot Rod or Pro Import the car will also fit into NHRA Comp Eliminator. When finished for next season the car should be able to run high 7's.

When we go to one of the local tracks New England Dragway or Lebanon Valley I'm amazed at the average age of the racers. I'm 53 y/o I don't remember that many people my age back when I was in my early 20's and drag racing.

When we go to a SC event I'm one of the old guy's, there are a few father son teams, but most of the teams are 20 somethings. I find them very entertaining. I also find them to be a lot like I/we were back then, just want a place to race and be safe doing it. Fun is a byproduct of that.

These young guy's are very willing to give help to who ever needs it. Please give them a chance don't hate them because they put slicks on the front tires.

Think of it this way. Most of us got our first cars from our parents hand me downs. In our day that was a domestic. What do most of the parents drive now, and what is the natural progression of the hand me down...may be that will help you understand why these guys race what they do.

Byron, well said and well done.

You are a drag racer, good enough for me and 99% of everyone else on this forum. Sure there's a couple dolts around, but frankly, every village has at least one idiot.

The SC deal is far from dead, anyone who hits a drag strip outside of "the big show" can see that. Civics outnumber 69 Camaros more often than not at most strips on T&T nights.

Speaking only for myself, I'm impressed by anyone who ditches the bag of chips and couch and goes out there and gets it done.

Racers are do-ers and do-ers are great people to be around.

Brian

Except you misspelled "misspelled". (ducking for cover) :)

Your points are excellent -- how can people drag racing, in whatever they choose, be a bad thing? And as you note, I'd rather having these folks on a strip than on the street.

Actually, my computer separated that word all by itself. I was actually waiting for someone to catch that. Great job!!:)
