when the finals were firing and rolling thru waterbox, i'm pretty sure we were watching drone footage? it took off from
a landscape/floral area just off starting line on east side of track, and flew up and across track capturing cars burning out
below it. IMO that was a great shot/sequence. 👏

didn't watch recorded race till late last night, and was busy all day today. just catching up
on the rest of the norwalk finals yesterday. holy cow, what a race. would have loved to have been there.
bobby with excellent wrap-up article. also read his article on spencer massey waiting for maddie in E1. great stuff.

It might have been a greater event if they would have the night qualifying session. Seemed like the track was prepped really good. NHRA did the right thing moving it to get it in but the rain never came Friday night.

last night i searched 'nhra' on youtube that streams through roku device on home system. only videos with nhra in title show up.
had to search maddi gordon, or drag racing, to find other content on the norwalk race. kenny on speedfreaks got an interview
with maddi, and then had to go mighty mack channel to find his wrap up of event, which is good ..... he, like me, loved the triple-up
by doug, ron, and maddie. looking forward to wfo this week.

Sadie Glenn's FB page ..... someone else with photo credit. just wanted to post these two pics.
big time first TD win! congrats to her

What Massey did is the underrated move of the year. He owns that car and waited as long as nhra would allow, and then did a longgg burnout to buy MORE time. Top shelf sportsmanship

I applaud what Spencer did as well and agree that it was Top Shelf. It happens regularly. Anybody remember Jim Head in Pomona waiting on Cruz?
Didn't he say something like: I would wait forever, because if he didn't wait for me I would knock him out.?

I can't remember that last time someone didn't wait. And I can remember many times being in the tower when the race monitor after someone waited a long time, said on the radio: "Tell that guy to start his car or they're both out."

Just goes to show that as racers we will always help the opponent until the Pre stage age light is on. Then it's war until the win light comes out. Then it's back to friends.

Our driver John Lawson did it at Rt 66 in 1999 going against Bob Newberry in the final. Newberry was having back problems and wasn't at staging when we were told to fire the car. John kept saying no until the starter told him to start or he was disqualified. We started it and waited a bit then finally did the burnout. Finally we see Newberry coming under the tunnel, so John wouldn't stage . Newberry fired up and did a short burnout. He beat us by a couple of hundredths because our motor was heated up more and it spun the tires a little at each shift. Newberry waited for us in Dallas one time under a little different situation. It's called sportsmanship that most drag racers have.

I am one that typically reads and doesn't reply. This is my high-five.

I'm fine with Massey. Yeah, he stepped on his pee-pee a few years back but that spilled milk is long since in the past. His stock price went up considerably after last Sunday. A shoutout, too, to the crew member whose quick thinking enabled Gordon's car to start and complete the pass. The entire finals just had a good vibe to it; despite the lack of killer numbers I came away really enjoying all of it.
