Haven't heard much lately on the status of the nitro supply for the remaining events. Anyone else heard any updates?

The racers I talk to are pretty tight lipped. One a A/Fuel racer I know is just about out, another sat out a race, and a few others in nostalgia racing had to sit out a race in Woodburn because they couldn't get any fuel, or so I was told. I head a few rumors but nothing that has yet to be backed-up. Regardless it sounds pretty bad if what I heard is true.

Off of the Geiger Counter a while back:
Nitro fuel shortage is due to Chinese smog

Saturday, 31 May 2008

NHRA officials are putting the brakes on wide-open use of nitromethane until stockpiles are at a more comfortable level. In an effort to reduce smog across China before the Olympic Games, the Chinese government has mandated a complete stoppage of nitromethane production until September. Nitromethane is almost exclusively produced in China

In light of this information, NHRA gurus told teams that professional test sessions following national events will be discontinued until further notice. (Yes, that includes Indy.) They're also asking for team's to limit their warm-up procedures or use alcohol instead of nitro during their warm-ups.

"There are six containers on their way here and they are trying to get six more containers out of the country before this Olympic embargo is in place," team owner David Powers said. "If we get that second batch, we should be fine until the end of the year and by then things will be back to normal."

Powers divulged that his two-car team uses approximately 160 gallons of nitromethane fuel per race weekend, depending on how many rounds they race on Sunday. Each full pass in qualifying and competition require about 15 gallons of fuel, while a typical warm-up uses about five gallons.

What about those 6 containers?

Ya know, if it weren't for the Dem's, we wouldn't have a nitro shortage!!!:D:D

(Hey, you opened the door...I just walked on in!!!)

But seriously, I've been wondering why we haven't heard anything new lately on the supply..

Yepper, I sure did!!! But that's what prompted me to post this thread--lots and lots of talk, then nothing. Call me crazy, but I kinda got a feeling that the loose ballast bust may not be helping the "lets use Shoe's nitro" movement along either.

Cordova secured Nitro for their past nostalgia race from Don S. Thanks Don for helping the little guys , plus the price was cheaper than VP, and it was 100%.
We were trying to get a container from a source I have in Singapore, but the price has gone nuts, (tripled) plus shipping costs are going up daily.
A distributor told me that a drum (500#) could be $2000 in August, if you can find it.
Industry still has Angus as a supplier, but if you need Chinese , , , bend over.

They will update this right after the Russell report comes out...

sorry I couldn't resist:eek::D

Not that the Dem's aren't responsible for a lot of things such as no drilling for more oil, but how are they responsible for the nitro shortage?

Rich, this is how Alan and I have chosen to handle our pole opposite political leanings--we have found that we both have our beliefs and neither one of us are going to change the other's mind, so we handle it with good natured barbs back and forth--works out pretty well. Now if Alan could just tell me why Bush made the price of a deck belt for my riding lawn mower go up 2 bucks I'd be happy....:D

How can I say this in a politically correct way?;)

It's noticeable, but it's nowhere near crisis level (yet). Yes, there is a nitroshortage. I'm not saying Bobby Bennett's wrong either, because he's not. There is a shortage, but it's not to the extremes we've heard. He's doing his job, he's reporting the information he has, and the information isn't incorrect. There's plenty of nitro though, it's just that VP Racing Fuels can't get their hands on it because they went and pissed off Schumie.

You'll get that explanation as soon as you explain to me why we had to raise our oil change price at the shop $5 in one shot. And why you are at it, let me know why Michelin and BFG raised their tire prices 8-10% on July 1. You tell me, mister!!!:D:D

And by the way, the reason In-n-Out is so damn good....BUSH!!!! Ohhhhh sorry...no tasty In-n-Out burger in Nebraska!!!!!!!!!:D

No kidding! Hey, Alan, how will an In-N-Out burger hold up if you ship one to Nebraska? (Sorry everyone, it appears that the Terry and Alan Pre-Holiday Thread Hijack is underway!)

Hmmmm...perhaps a flash freezing???? Or do I purchase said burger, and am unable to resist the tasty goodness of the In-n-Out pleasure, along with an order of well done fries...............:D:D Or you make the run to Sonoma next year, and I'll personally see that you get the goods!!!

Now THAT sounds like a plan! Don't forget to wear the magic hat to Sears Point! I got it all fixed up for ya!
