Greg,

The problem isn't that you don't know the whole story. The problem is that you won't acknowledge that there might be more to the story than you know.

Just because NHRA hasn't issued a press release explaining all the things they are currently doing, doesn't mean that they are doing nothing. But you hate NHRA and you have decided to slam them at every turn and I am tired of arguing with you. I will pass on to Graham that as the Northern California Top Comp Champion you demand to be kept informed on all that is happening in the nitro world.

As always this is my opinion, I am NOT the NHRA spokesman, but I am sticking up for a company that I work for.

Alan
Alan,

Touch a nerve!?!? Notice the "LMAO", the winking smilely and the laughing smilely... it was a joke!!

But since you've seen fit to call me out...

I could give a rats backside if NHRA, Graham Light or anyone else provides a press release. The problem being that they never issue any statement on situations like this. You'd think we were talking about national security, not drag racing.

I fully appreciate that those of us outside the situation may not have all the details. I don't have to acknowledge that fact. It goes without saying since all we ever get is one side of the story or some politically correct B.S. from the NHRA management.

And for the record, Alan. I don't hate NHRA! But I have been very disappointed in many of the decisions and the way they have handled many situations lately. And I have acknowledge instance where I thought NHRA did a good job. Just last week I complimented them on the effort they made to get the Bristol race done and on TV as schedule. Please remind of any positive things from NHRA that I've missed lately and I'll glad send them a happy gram.

I can appreciate you sticking up for the company you work for. But why are you the only one from the company that is doing anything to defend NHRA?

Are we going to sit down over some cocktails next weekend and discuss some of these issues?

Alan,

Would mind providing your opinion on why NHRA has taken such are hard line on Schumacher not being allowed to supply teams with fuel for test sessions, fuel that will probably never be available for sale to VP so that they can resell it to teams as NHRA sees fit? And why does NHRA think it is necessary to dictate who can and cannot supply nitro outside the national event realm?

From the CompPlus column:

Schumacher has enough nitromethane to supply the test sessions, but the NHRA has taken a hard line stance they don’t want team owners or racers distributing the fuel. The NHRA has clearly drawn a line in the sand they have no interest in working with Schumacher outside of brokering a deal between him and VP.

From the casual observer this moratoreum on testing could apper to be a strong arm tactic attempt to prevent Don S. from using or selling his nitro to anyone but VP.

You can view this as me being negative. But I think these are questions that anybody interested in drag racing would like answered. Without both sides of the story all anyone can do is speculate. And there are lot of people throwing stones NHRA's way lately... not just me.

I just got to thinking.....

What about Baders "Night of Fire" Match race???

Forces, Pedregons, Wilk, and others usually go to that...

Is NHRA going to tell Bader the cars can't run there becasue of the NHRA sanction???

After reading this entire thread, one thing becomes blatantly clear:

MONKEYS, FOOTBALLS, LARRY, MOE & CURLY

have all been maliciously slandered by these unfair and mean spirited comparisons!!!!! ;)

Imho, distribution of critical race items such as fuels, slicks, etc., should not be controlled by owners/racers, instead, through a neutral party.

Anything else will eventually have the appearance of impartiality.

Christopher,
You hit the nail directly on the head.
.
Impartiality............What a concept!
.
NOW......... Lets call a hairless cat---Bald
.
NHRA doesnt want to work with SHOE.( that would stop the world)... It's been a convenience for the last 5 years!
.
VP Needs to work with SHOE. (benefit the sport) i.e. they havent the fuel
.
SHOE wants to GUARANTEE a fair price............hell, Thats reasonable.
.
NHRA needs to get off its high and mighty steed, and realise........... It's just business. Not a personal vendetta.
Dont hate the man because he thinks like a businessman. He seems to really know whats going on. One of the Few.
.
Rupert Murdoch may not like all the people that he does business with personally, but do you think that a mastermind will let that interfere with the production of his holdings? ... HELL NO!
He seems to know what the hell he's doing & its working!
.
Do you think for a minute that Rupert would let his stock suffer or a project flounder because he has an issue with a contractor/ intermediary? ... HELL NO!
.
Who pays for the ego that the NHRA Esteemed have? The Racers, The Fans, The Sport. God Forbid we have an incedent with the new tires/ chassis changes because of the lack of testing, or the lack of pure sensibility.
.
Glendora,
Stop this petty bickering, and grow up as my Mother would say, and Play like a Man!

Show your support, Keep Nitro Costs Down

Ahem! May I say something? I know I'm JUST one fan. But perhaps someone reading this would like to know: I have NOT renewed my Indy tickets yet. And just in case you want to know, I DO have a free place to stay. I CAN afford the tickets, the gas, and the meals. And I do, and always will, love the sport of drag racing. I have since the late 1950s. So, you who are reading this, you tell me, WHY have I not renewed? When you come up with your answer (it should take all of 2 seconds) multiply me by at about 20,000, and tell yourself that if YOU are the NHRA you don't have anything to worry about. Yeah, maybe you could say "You owe it to your racing heroes to come to Indy." But I say I owe no one anything. I have been loyal, and faithful for 50years now. It's time for YOU to show some loyalty to me. If you don't, I won't be there, ever again.

Anybody catch the interviews with Don and Graham on the qualifying show this am?

I was extremely impressed by Don Schumacher. He declined to drag NHRA through the mud (something they seem to enjoy doing to him), didn't discuss his appeal in progress (what a concept!), suggested that he'd do whatever it took to keep nitro in the system (but realistically noted that other businesses want it too), and generally was a class act. Everything you'd expect a successful businessman to be.

Graham spent much of his time in FUD mode (fear, uncertainty, and doubt). He said both that there wasn't a real nitro problem, but their supplier was having a supply problem. There is nothing to worry about, but we're cutting testing. There's really no issue now, but we could do things like cut qualifying sessions. VP has nitro on the boat, but it could evaporate by the time it reaches our shores. The fan is most important, but we can't figure out a way to compromise with DSR. Ugh.

Quite the contrast.

Isn't impartiality what we're shooting for?
Yes, my old fingers couldn't keep up with my old mind, my statement should have been "Anything else will eventually NOT have the appearance of impartiality".

And Pete, according to your bio, you work for DSR so you are promoting the "company view point" and not impartial.

Yeah, I was really assured by what Graham had to say...to paraphrase "There may be a problem, there may not be a problem." I feel confident they will resolve the issue...NOT!

Paul,
Does it matter who I work for? Or what I do there?
Facts are just that.

After watching qualifying I have finally realized this may be drag racing's biggest fiasco ever and can be settled now if all parties involved can put their ego a side. NHRA can start by letting Shoe's fine go along with a appology.

For the life of me, I can't understand why they would forgo the fine and offer an apology.

Because he has 400 drums of nitro?
Why would he sink that sort of money into something he knew he couldn't sell to NHRA racers? He had to have had another market for it without being the official supplier. If he didn't that is just an unwise investment.

i gotta hand it to ya Greg Moon, NHRA is takin' a lotta heat these days and your about the only one around here stickin' up for them, who doesn't actually work their.......... way to speak your mine guy !!

Maybe THATS what "Moon Flied" means!

Oh, I think they have helped dick this situation up, don't mistake that.

But the answer is not forgoing fines and offering apologies. I have a feeling that the other fuel teams wouldn't stand for that, or PRO would be blasting NHRA over the situation. Daily.
And they aren't.

Or was it? Don is not the villan in this. That much nitro wouldn't cover testing
for the year. 400 drums is only about 5 races.
