Mile High Nationals might not happen in 2020 (1 Viewer)

I do believe that for the Nationals they have blocked out every other row. Not sure if there is space in the same row between groups. However if the rule remained to 175 people for an event, they are not going to do that.

They just held Race Week and it looked like there would have been more than 175 people there. It seems like a big risk to take, not even talking about the virus, just the future relationship with local authorities.

Hate to tell you guys but there's going to be a lot more races cancelled before this shit is all over.

You do not need a crystal ball to see that things are not getting better right now.
I think after Indy is over the NHRA has a lot of thinking ahead of them about what to do next.

Not much fun for any sectioning body right now.
I also wonder with everything going on in Calif. how much longer is the NHRA is going to stay there and not move on to a more friendly state.

I was surprised to hear on the radio a commercial for 4th of July fireworks with Jet cars at Bandimere this Saturday. I dont see that happening.

I was there for the divisional event on Father's Day weekend. The place was packed. More people than I've ever seen attend a divisional race. It was obvious people were dying to see some racing after having all of the other bigger events cancelled up to that point. Not as many people were there as for the Mile Highs, but probably not too far away from the amount of people they usually get for the Night of Fire and Thunder event normally held in May. As for the seating, every other row had an X on it. So one full row would be open, but the row in front and behind it would have an X where people were not supposed to sit. As the night wore on, people were sitting with their friends and family like any other event and the whole, "you can't sit in a row with an X marked on it" wasn't really being adhered to. The Night of Fire and Thunder and the 4th of July Jet Car Nationals are their biggest events outside of the Mile Highs. They postponed the NFT event until September, but they have been promoting the hell out of the 4th of July event (Instagram, Twitter, Website, Radio). I hope they can figure out some more social distancing policies so they don't get shut down by Jefferson County.
Side note, Red Rocks Amphitheater, which sits right on the other side of the mountain behind Bandimere, still has their concert dates postponed or cancelled, but they are starting up their Yoga on the Rocks workout events. They normally sell around 2000 tickets for people to come and do early morning yoga workouts. Because of the JeffCo rules, they are only selling 175 tickets, but they are offering more sessions this year to try and accommodate the normal demand.
If JeffCo stands firm with the 175 limit for the rest of the year, there will be no concerts at Red Rocks and obviously no Mile Highs at Bandimere.

I get the feeling they were trying to push the envelope a little bit, and sort of taking a stand, trying not to be bullied if you will..... but I have NO IDEA if that is Infact true; kind of like let’s just take a gamble and hope for the best. This kind of reminds me of another situation earlier in the pandemic with a track located north of Kentucky and south of Michigan.

On one of the local news stations this morning, they were saying that Bandimere is one of only three firework displays in the Denver metro this year and they expect a big crowd and the Morrison police department was ready for large crowds. It seems the county wants to shut them down but the city is accommodating them. On another station, there was an story about Bandimere hiring a lawyer.

On a serious note, if COVID is running rampant in the Denver area then I can understand the county's concern. And I can't imagine the Bandimeres risking having their facility closed - permanently - for defying a county/state health order, and that could happen. On the other hand....well, that's a long story and somewhat political so I won't go there. Let's just say the odds of the race happening are slim and I'm starting to wonder about the future of NHRA itself. An entire season wiped out is gonna be a tough road to hoe.

The inconsistency with these "rules" nationwide is completely asinine. Every Walmart is jammed with people. Every Home Depot and Lowes is jammed. Not a peep from anyone on that. Been flying lately? The planes are jammed, except for the middle seat. I'm in the window seat and only 3 feet away from the guy in the aisle seat, the row in front of me, and the row behind me. And that's inside the plane with re-circulated air. No one says a thing. But the damn airlines are "making your safety our #1 priority". Bullshit. And now the airlines are going to SELL EVERY SEAT ON THE PLANE. Are you kidding me? Not a peep from anyone on that. And I can't go to an outdoor event and stand 6' away from people and enjoy my drag racing? Tell these government authorities to drop dead and shove it up their you know what.

That's because there isn't a NATIONAL response to this at all, hence the inconsistencies everywhere.

I was waiting for something like this. Colorado has done a pretty good job of not allowing what has happened in TX and AZ. It sucks but has to be done. I have a brother inlaw who works for an airline who has not been back to work in 2 months due to the lack of flights. What airlines is packing them in? My sister also works for a major hotel and most the business is walk in due to the lack of people flying. As for flying, its common sense. If you believe the airlines its your own fault.

Probably real soon, lots of racing planned in Aug and September. These Governors don't have a clue what they're doing. Specialist just st stated there is less than 1% people would catch virus.

Heard late last night that Bandimere's Jet and Fireworks show for tonight is still on. They were hashing it out all day yesterday. Not saying it is gospel, and it could change again today, but they are trying to go forward.

Yes, they are allowed to hold the event tonight. They will be monitored by the county health department to see if they are adhering to social distancing guidelines. At least they get a chance to make it work. I don’t know if they can pull it off but I’m hoping for the best. If they get through this without an issue, the Mile High Nationals might still have a chance.

Hey Chris you are a lot more optimistic than I am. Bandimere depends on the large crowds that attend the 4th of July fireworks display. How are they going to away all but 175 people. Maybe turn the parking lots into a drive in type deal.

There are a lot of tracks that are showing drive in movies. Houston will be showing the Indy drags. Tucson has had a couple of drive in movies so far. Funny Car Summer would be a great movie to start with.

After the 4th of July race, the county health department is saying that Bandimere violated the rules and are now seeking legal action against them. Not sure what they will do but I’m guessing the Mile High Nationals will not happen unless Bandimere can pull off a miracle. https://www.9news.com/article/news/...tment/73-1edb60a7-dde3-4958-a4bf-f3b429f6345c

I dont see how the Mile Highs will happen now. They proved to the city and state Bandimere cant be trusted to hold an event after violating the agreement.
