NHRA we need changes NOW! (3 Viewers)

NHRA fuel racing is a SHOW!!! It's NOT racing. Wake up. This is an entertainment business NOT racing! 1000 foot sucks. No smoke and quiet 100' burnouts suck. Neither excite the crowds. The cost is ridiculous. Single spark plug, 4 clutch discs, 10-71 blowers, and a 50 gallon pump are the future so get ready! This **** show is unaffordable. Lame 10 car shows won't cut it. Bring on the 500" 98% injected nitro Funny Cars.

Tell the fuel team owners/drivers/crews that they're not racing.

Casual spectators would also have no care at all for every class that isn't on nitro. So would it make sense to continue to pander to that portion of the fan base?? Get rid of the hundreds of other cars on the property?

I'm tired of hearing about ways to water-down a sport that isn't for everybody; especially since car-culture isn't anywhere near as strong as it was when people (a LOT of people) had some sort of mechanical aptitude...
Maybe this sport isn't for everyone, but continuing to whittle it down to a nub to try and appeal to someone that is WAY more comfortable sitting in front of a screen, while killing off the remaining portion of fans (and racers) that are willing and ready to drop hundreds/thousands of dollars a weekend to be there, is absolutely ludicrous.

I'd be curious to see if drivers in all pro classes are cool with a race that is over in <3 seconds
$50000 is $50000, nobody at Galot cared it was 1/8 mile. I came from Texas for it and will go back.

So here we are, at the end of the worst NHRA season in 50 years.
Guess I'm the odd man out. I feel that it was one of the best years ever. I don't recall when all 4 pro categories had so many vehicles that could win any race. In fact some champions couldn't be called until Pomona 2. Granted, some fields were short but with economics being what they are and the challenge of securing a sponsor that is willing to fork over seven figures is slim pickins it's not a huge surprise. If next year is like this year I'll be thrilled.

Well damn, what happened to the 8-71 blowers? Not even you can make up your mind.

Well theirs always the Nhra youtube channel. ;)

My one change would be - if any full day of qualifying or racing is rained out … and they’re still letting fans in who bought tickets…. There should be organized “cackle Fests” staggered throughout the day. All pro categories…for instance. - say at 10:30, all the PSM’s start their bikes for 4 or 5 minutes on the stands in their pits. Then an hour later, all the PRO cars do it. An hour later - all the alcohol cars. Then all the Fuelers. All at once. Would keep the fans onsite and interested through the day and hopefully yield residual revenue through merch and concessions sales. Fuel and parts cost money, yes; maybe devise some way to compensate the racers for doing it or something like that.
If you think I’m nuts - you’re absolutely correct!

It’s a real disappointment that we didn’t get to see the final race, such a buzzkill. But as much as I hate that it was canceled, it was absolutely the right call. I live in the greater Los Angeles area, and the rain hasn’t let up at all. The water table was so high that the rubber was literally peeling off the track.

People need to remember that Pomona has a very short shutdown area, and with the sand trap completely saturated, the “sand” was basically mud, dense and hard. Under those conditions, if Brittney had run over 340 mph in the cool air (which she easily could have with a usable track) and then had a chute failure, she might not have walked away. Hitting that wet, compacted sand would’ve been like hitting a wall.

They absolutely made the right decision regarding Pomona. There was no way that track could have ever dried. No sun, inches of standing water, cold temperatures, and days of nonstop rain. It’s still raining now, and I’ve had flash flood alerts going off on my TV all day and night.

I disagree with the only classes they are interested in is nitro. I have taken 4 people over the years that had never been to any kind of race period and they loved stock and SS.

Most of you guys only want to bitch about things. I bet over 50% of you don't think Blazing Saddles is not funny either. Maybe there would be more sponsors if there wasn't so much bitching on social media. You do realize that potential sponsors look at things like this.

Couple thoughts.
1. Haven't seen what the difference is between the Clown Down Champions & what the full season points system would look like.

2. Should Pomona #2 have a plan B for such as last weekend. It appears to me #2 is based on a Perfect Weekend. Just one hiccup and the Dominos effect kicks in.

FWIW, I took my daughter and son-in-law to a race and they liked the pro stock car and motorcycle best. They said the nitro cars went down the track so fast they didn't have time to appreciate them...

In 2025 Top Fuel had 12 races with a less than full field with the west coast being the worst. Tell me pathetic NHRA didn't see this coming. Look, its an entertainment show and it competes for the entertainment dollar. If the value goes away, its over! Its that simple. You have to pay the entertainers enough to show up and its obvious that this isn't happening!!!!! Even out the playing field. CHANGE the engine combination. Smaller fuel pumps and smaller blowers with a 5 disc clutch and back to 1320' racing.
When WINSTON left NHRA it took a hit. Then Coca Cola came in and they killed their deal 2 years early! Why? then Camping World and now Mission. If the VALUE does NOT return with people in the stands, (the real Judge), it ends. IHRA is back for a reason.
JMO..for what a ProMod cost to run they could be in a fuel car.

I was watching some of the Time Machine shows during the rain delays. They discussed the early '80s decline in TF cars, a few fields were single digits I believe. Those cars cost a lot less than the current ones do. It wasn't "over" then, and I don't believe it's over now. Is fuel racing stupidly expensive? Yep. Are there fields that are short? Yep. Are there some events that don't pack the stands? Sure. I'm not going to list all the good stuff. If someone can't find the positives in today's version of NHRA racing, they should watch another sport. Or try the IHRA 1/8 Mile series. I'm not saying it wouldn't be great to lower the costs, but nobody seems to be able to agree on the combination. And while many criticize that there's no more innovation in the pro ranks, well that's because NHRA has put limits on R&D to keep costs from getting even more out of control.

One thing to note, as much as I agree that attendance has been suffering for a few years, we are operating in a new environment. Streaming and the TV package is where the pot of gold is. Think of Major League Baseball. Star players in the 1970's were barely scratching $1 million a year and the stands were packed. Now they make tens (hundreds) of millions and a lot of newer parks are actually smaller. What changed? Where did this money come from? Its all because of TV.
My point is that you can't just look at the stands to determine how much money is flowing, and secondly it is critical that NHRA do what they can to attract the best TV package possible. Sometimes that involves some compromises that make you hold your nose, but what can you do?

Does NHRA still have to pay to have their races broadcast, instead of receiving money for the broadcasting rights, such as is received by the professional stick and ball sports?
