NHRA to LIMIT Energy Drink Sponsors (1 Viewer)

I could be wrong, but it is my understanding that several events ago Monster bought out the remainder of it's sponsorship after the 2008 season and will not return. I don't think Vis-Vis has the financial where with all to support a full sponsorship. I really hope Max gets Vegas Fuel's distribution going and becomes very profitable to support his team. And Don will keep Rockstar around as long as he can to be a "burr up NHRA's butt". The girls are great where ever they may roam.

Maybe if a team will bring the "Thunder from down under" guys out in Vegas to promote their products, Alan wouldn't be such a stickler for the "rules", which are very "fluid" at best.

Take it in the humous vein that it was meant to be Alan.

This is about rules. If Rockstar wanted to bring in 500 models, and give everyone who walked in the gate a free sample and a coupon for a case of the stuff should that be OK?

If you were Monster would that be OK?

If you were Full Throttle would it be OK?

You have to draw the line somewhere, and the line can't be crossed. If you let one company do it, then every company will want to do it. If you as a company, paid for a three million dollar sponsorship, would you be happy to find out that another company paid one million to the team and two mil, to hire models and give away stuff? In the long run, would that be good for the teams?

Devallion,

As the ARMY is an "Official Partner" of NHRA, if the NAVY had recruiters walking through the pits handing out recruiting info, I guarantee DSR would be demanding that they (The NAVY) be told to stop.

Alan

Here's a thought -
There can only be one series headliner (ie, Powerade this year and years past, Winston before that, Full Throttle next year and in the future).
So, they have it locked up to where nobody else can advertise. Bullies. Too bad. Take your sponsorship money somewhere else and play, and leave this arena for the rest of the non-like brands to advertise.

As for Mac vs. Snap-On vs. Matco, etc. - If they want to go head to head, let them do in full capacity. If you can't outright outsell the other guy, it's not your advertising's fault.

As for with the Army, etc. Tell the others in order to do what the Army is doing (roaming the pits recruiting etc.) step to the official level, and then it's fair game for everyone everywhere.

But as for making it to where 1 player has control, that's bull.

Alan,

I agree with you, I don't see a problem with the recent actions. Full Throttle stepped up to the plate with enough jack to become the series sponsor and with that comes certain rules, which allows grandfathered sponsors to continue to sponsor their teams. I didn't see anyone else wanting to put up the money to be the series sponsor. Without Powerade/Full Throttle you likely would not have enough money to buy the TV time or other things the causal fan does not see. And I don't mean the Bentley! So where's that leave you, with all the sponsors you want but no way to get them national exposure in prime time?

I didn't say ONE word about Ron Jeremy!!! YOU brought it up!!!

I bet Ron knows some of the Rockstar Girls!!! Baaaaahahahahahaaaaa!!!:p

Not to unhijack the thread from Suzie but when did Alan become a mouthpiece stooge for the Glendora Gang?

I have always enjoyed reading his posts and admired his candid views as well as his commentary at races, but when the man in charge is dead wrong and harming the business that we all love why defend him?

In recent years NHRA has jumped on every new sponsor a racer has brought into the NHRA by ramming an event sponsorship or official this or that down their throat. This just takes money from the cars and lines TC's pockets and leaves less and less for the people that put fans in the stands. To read all the posts Alan has typed so boldly in red here it seems he has been taken over by the Dark Side (and I don't mean Schumacher Racing).

So what the Hell Alan? Can we still count on you for honest, non-Compton info or just more spoonful Pablum BS from the Man?

That's pretty harsh, Jet. I don't see Alan as a mouthpiece..he was merely explaining the rules that this applies to. He didn't write them.

Hi David

It is something I didn't expect to see from someone of his standing. Alan has always had my respect but he seems bit too behind the concept as he has always been the voice of reason in the past. Perhaps his haste and agressiveness in supporting this issue has me questioning his motivation.

It just upsets me to see a sanctioning body limit car sponsorships for conflict of interest or any other reason. In these tough sponsorship times NHRA needs to be doing anything it can to lure sponsors to the cars, drivers and owners and not slamming the door in the faces of sponsors that also address the next generation of racers.

As far as it being too harsh perhaps you are right as I was drinking an energy drink when I wrote that.

This has nothing to do with the car sponsors, or the signage on the cars, trucks, awnings or tow cars.

To use the tool companies just as an example. If Doug Herbert has a model at his pit handing out Snap-on info, that's one thing. If he sends this model over to stand in front of the Kalitta pit to hand out Snap-on info, would that be OK? What about any of the other MAC TOOLS cars?

I'm guessing that most of you said no.

So the issue becomes where do you draw the line? And the answer is at the end of the pit stall. So if your model is roaming the pits, she is breaking the rules. It's not a matter of sponsoring the cars, it's a matter of what is and isn't allowed at the track.

Alan

I say we just put all these chickas in a big above ground pool filled with Jell-o at the end of the Midway and let them go a few rounds, with the winners able to pass out all the energy drinks, wrenches, bikini tops, etc. that they want to.. New rounds start every 30 minutes....:D

And can I draw the lines on them with edible paint??? :p

Seriously, if the product is any good, there should be no problem with a little friendly competition.. Is there something you know Alan that makes the Por.. I mean RockStar girls a threat to the American system of fair trade? After all, they have just a few buck sunk into this sport as well- just not into the bank account of the folks in Glendora...

When you put your good money down, you want to get what you pay for. Still, it's not like I'm going to switch from the occasional Blue Monster. I like it.

give me a break - if coca-cola's so pissed about the rockstar girls walking
around, then get their own girls and do the same thing.
seriously, i understand the situation and you get what you pay for;
i'm also glad to see rockstar trying to make the most of their nhra involvment.

so i'm watching an o'reilly or CSK auto parts national event and
napa sponsored ron capps goes out in round one.
in each successive round there continues to be a DSR FC remaining,
and during engine start, burnout and staging i see ron capps
cheering on his teammates.......in full color napa livery, and i'm watching
this napa logo splashed across my TV and in millions of homes.
(if you've noticed, i'm not making this up, ron gets great exposure
for napa even after he's out of competition)

ruling please.....

Mike,

Rock Star uses pretty girls at the track...

PowerAde, and most likely Full Throttle uses those screaming idiots who belittle the fans, use the same tired jokes week in, week out, and are on a total ego trip, like they are why people come to the track... GEICO messed up this season using them...

now if the PowerAde girls in the winners circle were hawking their goods, that would be a whole 'nother story...
