NHRA Tech says to DSR Top Fuelers "Take It Off"!

Anybody actually read the article?

You may now continue with the usual bashing.

Yea, I read it. What article? One that describes what happend and why? My eyes must be playing a trick on me, and to top it off it has statements that do not make a bit of sense.

"National Records," E.T/MPH: 1. Del set it. 2. Del set it 3. 100% no logical connection to DSR.

It should not even of been made a thread yet. Nothing factual is written that answers anyones questions or provides the reason of Why it had to go? Poor Journalism. The link is a waste and the information provides tells us nothing but a sentence making no sense at all. I also find it funny that your site does not allow anyone to select and copy any words, when it's that inaccurate, i'll pass

Yikes! seems off after running they ran it all season. Maybe some teams thought that it was a way to get into the dsr camps heads...or so they hope.

I like the looks of them and figured they might provide a little more safety and some areo/downforce.

Either way its far too late to complain about, leave it on

Sounds like a bunch of other TF team owners have been hanging out with the Occupy (insert city name here) hippies. Yeah...let's penalize the guys that worked hard and came up with some innovations. There was a time in drag racing when owners and crew chiefs (who used to be the same person) would try to one-up innovation rather than complain and want something for free. What the hell has happened?

I know...instead of racing let's just out-market each other. Let some MBA and the image consultants decide who will win. We can just regurgitate the same on-track footage week after week and no one will have to spend time and money making a hot rod go quicker and faster than an opponent. Better yet...let's give everyone a check and trophy. Wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings by beating the snot out of them.

When is Top Dragster coming to the lanes?

Lol I hope it does not come to this

Seriously Darr, in the name of reporting, why even post this without a REAL story? Del left Maple Grove with the record, so why is "Record Setting" even included in any sentance? Are the canopys considered unsafe? If so, that's your story....QUOTE=Darr Hawthorne;277997]DSR T/F - Take if off!

A good fabricator should be able to cover anybody's cage like the DSR cars in about THREE hours.

An Indiana University is , thanks to departed Lee Beard, adding their two cents worth in attempting to improve the DSR Top Fuelers performance. Yrs truly is assuming it was the university's call to install.

Wouldn't one think that what a great PR ploy for NHRA to encourage ALL Pro racers to enlist their local educational institutions to give such rewarding (to both sides) engineering help?

Like Formula SAE. Which has become a breeding ground for F1, IRL and NASCAR future engineers.

Am I paranoid , or is there more to that call by NHRA tech than meets the eye?

Maybe a parting shot by someone soon off the payroll?

I think everything Don said in the CompPlus article seems pretty on the mark to me.

Pretty sad competitor who picks this to whine about. "Sour grapes" seems too kind. And pretty sad of NHRA to do this with three races left. Just run the season out for cripes sake...

Here is the line from DRO

"According to the operative, the complaints came from other T/F competitors after the National Record setting weekend at 27th annual Auto-Plus® NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway."

I don't think it mentions anything about a certain team setting the record, just the weekend was a fast one. Hell it could have been the slowest weekend of the year, that was just the time it was brought up.

Thank you both!!!

Anyone else ever notice that DRO always comes up with nothing more than a headline, them Comp Plus comes along with the real story. Happens all the time.

Ok so if in fact what NHRA was told was a safety issue "protecting drivers from fire" turned out to also help performance I do not see a problem. But as we can see the "safety issue" was not accomplished correct ?
I am not pro or con any team on this issue, I thought DSR was coming out with the enclosed cockpit this year but I guess that didn't happen.

One thing that is for certain, the NHRA again proves without a reasonable doubt that it is a disorganized, unprofessional and prejudicial chicken $hit outfit. No wonder they worked themselves into the 1000' quagmire.

If you make a decision, one way or another, the decision should stand for the entire season. If you believe that you have enough data to make a educated decision, then you make it. If you feel that you do not have adequate information, you obstain from any decision until you have enough data. You never make a decision, and then recant in mid season by using the same pretzel logic that got you into this fix to begin with.

I feel sorry for Don, not because I know him or feel bad that he spent a wad of cash for the development, but I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to build a business with many lives and livings at stake, all to be governed my total morons.

I'm not much of a fan of the DSR teams (although I was always a fan of Don when he was driving [shrug])

to my mind the extensions seemed like they would create a low pressure area ahead of the engine and suck the fire INTO the back of the cockpit...kinda what the pictures of Antron's fire showed...but I'm not an expert at that

OTOH the NHRA said they were legal and let the team run them for the majority of the season, so it's really a CS move by the NHRA to make them remove the extensions now

Good article on comp+.

What a scam. Don took this in the shorts. One team can't have something becasue it's unfair to other teams?? Where would this sport be without people thinking out of the box or thinking ahead?? So lets say this thing in theory gives them an extra 2 mph. Good for them! They built it.

Good thing Grahm Light was not in charge when Big Daddy came out with his rear engine car.
