I'd hate to be the one handling the logistics of getting the gear and crews to Australia, much less paying for it, but I think having a race in Australia would be great. Seems to me, though, that such a race should be scheduled earlier in the year - perhaps right after Pomona when all the teams are already in Southern California (and isn't February a summer month in Australia?).

Maybe we will just start posting the news in the NHRA forum.........

It's a moot point, I have a better chance of becoming the President of the United States than this one has of happening in 2008.

Gee of all the wild and crazy Indy announcements, I think this one is the craziest. NHRA doesn't want to expand to Canada/Mexico because of travel costs, yet they're talking about going to Oz?? Yup, makes sense to me...

Is this April 1st?

It would be a lot less trouble to just move Australia off the coast of Calif. Right next to Catalina Island. :D

the only way it would happen is if kalitta would fly all the cars over and back. a friend of mine sold a motor to a race over there, and between sitting at the dock and time on the boat, it took 45 days to get there.

Hopefully you're only trying to make a point. That "stuff" would take over the NHRA board and we would have to sift through tons of it to find what we're looking for. Besides, didn't you just do a poll about the News section?

WE have a news forum here ??? LOL I just have this page bookmarked and come here ...

While we're at it, drop some of the USA races and add Japan and Santa Pod, Rio, and Canada.... and don't forget a Saudi race.... then we can crown a World Champion....

As interesting as it sounds, I can't see ANY racers making the trip to Australia and back for a single race. Talk about increasing the travel expenses! And to hold it in September between the U.S. Nationals and the next race would be pretty tough since it is quite a long long distance to get over to Australia. Seems to me it would have to be the 1st or last race of the year or there would have to be real long breaks before and after the race. Just seems ridiculous to even contemplate.

I agree with Bobby, though it certainly is possible logistics wise. We ship our entire 32-car V8 Supercar Series (read, road race versions of NASCARs) offshore twice a year to New Zealand and Bahrain (going there again at the end of next month). Two jumbo jets get packed with all cars and spares. It's a huge job, but possible.

A problem in doing this is that the fields would probably be just eight cars:

- Australian Pro Stock runs an entirely different formula (400 cube engines)
- shortage of Australian Funny Cars and maybe one would comply with NHRA rules
- Very few Australian Top Fuel cars comply to NHRA rules (most run 90%, SFI compliment of components, etc).

While I may prove to be wrong, I don't think WSID will happen, its possibly more of an opportunistic grab to get some positive PR with all of the negativity down here at the moment.

One thing's for sure, if they were to get the round WSID would have to improve on making results available, having stepped back pre 1995 with their event on the weekend.................................

Oh, and Bobby, good luck on becoming President!

How can you say "Any racers"? Take a guess Kurt. Who would do that?

You're probably thinking John Force is the only guy crazy enough to do that. Ding ding. Yup, you're right.

you forgot Teach.... Gary did it too....and a couple of other so-cal floppers I believe.... strikes me a few aa/fd's.... but heck, that was 30 or so years ago...

Didn't forget Karl. John was racing Gary in match races. And I think Gary lived there. Gary had to keep John's car running because John didn't have the knowledge to keep it repaired. I got that from Force himself.

I could be wrong about Gary living there and I tried to Google it but didn't see anything.
