I know you're racing, cool, but a lot of people I know stopped watching when the NHRA went to 1000', so 1/8th is completely off their radar.
My 1/8 mile ride with Larry Dixon was not off the radar. 2 rides. I’d say IHRA is building up as they go. I’d like to see them get the Bradenton track again.

Funny Car Chaos, Nitro Chaos, and the coming Fuel Altered Chaos sure doesn't lack fans or competitors with their 1/8 mile setup. Sounds like those who can't cope with the changes in track length aren't true fans of the sport. Just like those that whine about four wide. Byron Dragway in Illinois opened in 1960 as a four wide track, before most of the complainers were even born.

Can we get back on topic now?

not an 1/8thmile fan and i plan never to attend or watch an 1/8th race (but i also swore i would never pay to see 1000' nitro racing, but eventually caved :p )
i believe in 'live and let live' and whatever 'floats your boat' therefore i wont slam that type of racing, but i question its 'Fan Appeal'. Racers seem to prefer it, but the vast majority of 1/8th mile races, i observe, the stands are are all but empty, so if the IHRA intends to draw some interest from the NHRA fan base than it could be a tough sell!

My complaint in 1/8 is the race is at the tree. You cut a good light or loose, there isn't any chasing the opponent down.
Cut the tree or click it off.

Here's another question - do people object to the 1/8 mile for the pro categories only, or just object to it overall? My experience has been with local" 1/8 mile tracks it's almost exclusively for the sportsman class, including a rare showing by an alcohol car or jet exhibition vehicle.

I can get with not having the pro stock, funny call, and top fuel classes on a 1/8 race but for everything else, I could live with it.

The 1/8 mile races always have more people crowding the starting line than in the stands ;)

I’m not down on 1/8 when there’s no room or for the sportsman classes, but Pro Mod and up look like Scott Palmer when he blasts off the line in his Nitro Pro Mod Studebaker…. stomp on it and hit the chutes

1/8 mile racing is for people who wish they could go 5 seconds in the 1/4 but don't have the funds....

Also, when you're traveling on the highway, they give you 1/4 mile before the next exit, not 1/8..... we don't deal in such small numbers🧐
Imagine how simple it sounds when you say 200 metres (1/8th}, 300 metres (1000') and 400 metres (1/4 mile). The ONE and ONLY time that Canada makes more sense than the USA. HAHA. Not mention that 547 KM/H sounds even more badass than 340 MPH...

Everyone take a hint from Canada, feel better about yourself and measure it in millimeters….
After all, doesn’t 152.4 mm sound better? 😁
