Personally I think most web designers are full of themselves. They're more into showing off than designing practical, user friendly websites. It's like, "gee, let's see how many flash objects and animations I can cram into this page." "Ain't I awesome?" Meanwhile half the computers visiting the site are freezing up. Also, there are people still using phone dialup modems, especially in rural areas.

At work we have a quad core Mac Pro with 3 gigs of memory, and a broadband connection, and those kind of websites STILL bug me. I guess "keep it simple stupid" isn't very popular among web designers.

Well, Leebone, I am a web and graphic designer, and after reading your statement about most web designers, all I got to say to you is--"hmmm, you're right!" Yeah, I agree. New toys coming out every day, and the urge to create a fourth of July show instead of a website is always there. So, I work really hard to stay away from slow loading items since our website still serves some of our smaller customers that really still do have dial up. So, Lee, I certainly agree with you--nothing is more frustrating to have a big shockwave and flash extravaganza to wait through when you just want to check Div 5 Super Gas points!
I don't think I can put our company's web address here because it might be construed as advertising but I would be pleased to give you the address in a pm if you let me know you want it. Since you and I both know the web designer's penchant for excess, I'd like you to look at our website and see if we have managed to have a good looking, informational site without huge belabored graphics. That was my goal--if you have time, check it out and let me know if I am headed in the right direction.

Like I said..."most" designers. There are always exceptions and I believe you. If you wan't to send a pm, that will be fine. :)

I am a web designer also... I agree with you also..lol The thing is Most my clients are drag racers and they want all the bells and whistles... I try to make sure they realize that not everyone has highspeed internet and if they go to there site and it takes to long to load they wont go back....

I went to https://www.americaneagle.com/ and searched for any news about NHRA...nothing. Typed in NHRA in their search feature, nothing. I did notice they do the Chicago Bears site...not too bad. I can only hope they do a good job. We deserve to have a great home page for NHRA, since we pay for it with our dues!

which reminds me, I did renew last weekend... only one year this time instead of my usual three... we'll see what happens next season and just what I'm getting for what I spent for gas driving back and forth to the track for three days...

I for one agree. There is alot of work that goes into it, and creativity is important. (Oh, and Also PERSONALITY)
I recall several years ago, I did SHOE's site, I put my racers soul into it, because it meant something. A website that you could navigate for an hour and never hit the same page twice, Archives and old images going back years. not just a photo-gallery, an archive of past and present.
I died as a webmaster with the onset of FLASH Sites. If you look there are alot of lazy webdesigners out there. Now, I must address the fact that I DO NOT call them all Lazy, BUT if you are, you know it!
All the teams had to go to FlashPages for their website. I personally think that they are site shallow and mirror images of each other. Not to mention you get reamed at the high design cost, $12-18K a site that is nothing more than a good graphics program and a filled template!

I see this in the offered examples of the new American Eagle work. If they do it different than what is sampled, I say lets see it.
BUT, If its going to be the same: PUT ME TO SLEEP NOW!

Anything would be an improvement over the current site, which, in my estimation, is one of the worst that I visit on a daily basis. There's so much more in depth stuff that they could do, but I guess they want to sell National Dragster, so they don't include things like behind the scenes interviews with drivers, crew personnel, stuff like that. The information that they provide on the web site is so generic, we've usually read it somewhere else before they post it.
