New TV Voice of the NHRA

The difference is Mike Joy does NASCAR on Fox, and SPEED is owned by Fox, so it is the same company. ESPN is owned by ABC, so I doubt Varsha contractually could do NHRA on a network for a different company. If he could, he would have definitely went to NBC to do F1, as that is his true passion.

It is funny to me that Mike Joy and Bob Varsha are mentioned together. There was a time back in the old Speedvision days when Mike Joy did the F1 broadcasts, then Fox got the NASCAR contract and Mike Joy went there opening the seat for Varsha for F1.

Yeah, I knew about Fox and Speed being one....just wishful thinking ;)

Maybe we should start a petition to get Bob Varsha on ESPN's NHRA coverage....IF and only if he's completely shut out of Formula One broadcasting in the future. He had a tear in his eye and gave emotional delivery of his farewell to the F1 audience on the last broadcast. He's the real deal.

On the other hand, maybe Bob Frey could Skype his announcing in to the studio from home (or vacation)...I would be willing to overlook the inevitable technical glitches to hear his play-by-play. Mike Dunn can even stand in front of a green screen if necessary........:D

Bob Varsha has done drag racing before. No thanks.

We need someone that can spit out drag racing names and facts, past and present without depending on someone coaching them in the headset. Someone that knows the sport, and some of the history of it.

Maybe we need a drag racing version of "The Voice" and hold auditions. :D

I'd give it a shot.

Please bring back Dave Mac and bring Steve Evans back from the dead. That would make the shows watchable again!

you know, with Steve Evans and Dave Mac doing the announcing for years, it spoiled at least me and probably a lot of people along with me because those 2 knew what they were doing and were good at it. Following those 2 people is a tall order regardless who is in the broadcast booth.

Kepner would have all the information and would be well prepared. Somehow I doubt even today he and the NHRA suits would be a great match.

whatever happens in the booth in 2013 i sure hope they continue to
put a 1st rnd. loser in the booth; some are better than others but obviously
a john force, larry dixon, ron capps, etc. that can intelligently speak
without prompts lends credibility to the broadcast as well as enhancing
exposure for sponsors.
there have been some racers in the booth that probably shouldn't have
been there but most are very capable of providing insight and commentary
that IMO viewers find interesting.

Bill Stephens is going to be the P.A. announcer at the track and not in the booth for the ESPN telecast, correct?
Just making sure I understand.

Will be nice to hear him at the track.
